Niall’s POV-

I hopped on the subway, cautiously waiting for Ava to appear. Izzy and Leena weren’t with Shanti so I assumed they were probably at one of each other’s houses. I continued looking until the beauty came into view, but there seemed to be tension between her and Shanti. In fact, right before Shanti got off, she got closer to Ava and gritted her teeth after saying something. I took a step forward but a rather large hand firmly grasped my shoulder. I turned to see who it was. The man was tall and quite muscular.

He had hair black as night, matching his cold eyes.

I knew who he was, but thankfully he wasn’t someone I had to waste my breath on.

“What do you want Brian?” I spat.

“Same thing you do.” I gave him a weird look. What did he mean?

His finger rose and I followed his gaze. There, at the tip of his finger, stood a very beautiful girl. My blood started to boil and I could feel the steam coming out of my ears. It was Ava.

“Hell no.”

“Hell yes!” He smirked. “I could give her more than anything you ever could.” He indicated this with the rocking of his hips. That really pushed my buttons. I wanted to punch him, hurt him in any way possible so he would get the message to back off; however the subway wasn’t a great place to do it.

“How are you going to protect her lover boy?” He grinded ‘protect’ on his teeth, clearly knowing how his actions were affecting me.

“Tomorrow, 8:00, school yard.” I stated, not having a clue in my mind on how I was going to defeat him.

Even if Ava had told me that she didn’t belong to anyone, she certainly wouldn’t belong to this guy, and I had to protect her. . .

I walked behind Ava before taking the opposite road. She kind of had forgotten I was there.

Throwing my stuff in the floor, I could smell a weird odor coming from somewhere. I searched and

searched until I reached Greg’s door.

“Hey is everything okay in h-“Most of his friends and him were sitting cross legged on the floor. There were small baggies spread amongst the room, full of a green substance. Everything clicked together and I immediately remembered what it was. I remembered the first time I saw that. It was when I was younger and I only thought of it as grass.

Greg had started again and the sight of him like this hit me like a ton a bricks. Even as a man, a small tear shed from left eye and I ran.

“Niall wait!” Greg yelled.

I threw open my front door and ran behind the house. There was a giant bush in which I could hide in, so I dove in. Greg caught up, but he didn’t see me. His bloodshot eyes searched frantically. They shot back and forth and up and down but he could not find me. His footsteps left impressions on the grass as he walked back inside.

Greg’s friends were going clubbing and of course he went with them. I could see the sorrow in his eyes as he left the house, but it disappeared as soon as he got into the car. I climbed out of the bush and went inside. My mom was out cold from her depression pills. I never understood why she took them, but she did and she was figuratively, never here.

My room was the second one down from Greg’s, which meant I would smell the leftovers of their “good time”. I belly-flopped onto my bed and sighed into my pillow. At this point, I didn’t care if Brian beat me to my death tomorrow. I just wanted it to all go away.
