I saw the determination in Atufa's eyes, and I knew we were in this together. We had to escape, and take her mother down. I looked around the cellar, trying to take in every detail. That's when I saw it - a small, rusted key hidden in the shadows.
I nodded to Atufa, and she knew what I was thinking. We both knew it was a long shot, but we had to try. I slowly started to work on the cuffs, trying to manipulate them without making any noise.
Atufa's eyes were fixed on her mother, watching her every move. Shaan was still standing behind her, his eyes blank and unfeeling. I knew we had to be careful - one wrong move, and we'd be caught.
I finally managed to loosen the cuffs, and Atufa and I exchanged a glance. We knew it was now or never. We made a run for the door, our hearts pounding in our chests.
But as we reached the stairs, her mother's voice stopped us cold. "You'll never escape me," she spat. And with that, the lights went out, and we were plunged into darkness.
I grabbed Atufa's hand, and we felt our way up the stairs. We knew we had to keep moving, no matter what. We finally reached the top, and saw a glimmer of light. We made a run for it, our hearts racing with excitement and fear.
We burst out of the house, into the bright sunlight. We knew we had to keep running, to get as far away from her mother's grasp as possible. We finally stopped at a small café, our hearts still racing.
And that's when we saw it - the news headline that would change everything. "Businesswoman arrested for fraud and embezzlement."
We looked at each other, and knew we'd done it. We'd taken her down, and we were finally free.
We sat in the café, staring at the headline in disbelief. We did it. We had actually done it. Atufa's mother was behind bars, and we were finally free from her grasp.
Atufa turned to me, her eyes shining with tears. "We did it, Abhi," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We actually did it."
I took her hand, feeling a sense of pride and relief wash over me. "We sure did," I said, smiling. "We made it happen."
We sat there for a moment, just enjoying the feeling of freedom. No more running, no more hiding. We could finally live our lives without looking over our shoulders.
But as we sat there, I knew that this was just the beginning. We had to rebuild our lives, start fresh. And I knew that I wanted to do it with Atufa by my side.
I turned to her, my heart beating faster. "Atufa," I said, my voice was low and serious. "I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy. Will you be my partner, my friend, my everything?"
Atufa's eyes widened, and a smile spread across her face. "Yes, Abhi," she said, her voice filled with joy. "Yes, yes, a million times yes."
And with that, we sealed our fate. We were in this together, forever.
We sat there, holding hands, and grinning at each other like fools. We knew that we still had a long way to go, but in that moment, nothing else mattered. We had each other, and we had our freedom.
