(3rd POV)

Two boys walked down the streets, one lagging behind. His white hair blew in the soft wind as his thoughts went back to the conversation he had with Raizo during lunchtime.

"You realize that you can't just sulk the whole time right?" the redhead spoke, causing the white haired boy to snap out of his thoughts. "It's only one year. You just have to get along with humans for a year and then you are free."

Shinra's teeth clenched as his body tensed, "I hate humans."

Ryosuke sighed, "Then pretend to make friends with them. You want to be freed don't you?"

While Ryosuke had a point, Shinra detested the idea of even pretending to make friends with a human. He held such hatred for those greedy, disloyal creatures. He wouldn't ever befriend one after what they have done to his home and his people.

"Reizo-kun isn't that bad. A little mysterious but I don't think he is a bad guy," Ryosuke informed Shinra.

At the mention of the black haired boy's name, his ears perked. Shinra couldn't deny his intrigue. Because of what he was, he could see the souls of living beings. Shinra noticed that Reizo's soul was far larger than the other humans. While regular humans have a gray soul gravitation in their chest, Reizo's soul enveloped his entire body. Not to mention his soul was white with the reflections of other colors like a beautiful prism.

Is he really human? He pondered but his nose told him that Reizo was in fact merely a human. However, Reizo's scent was oddly pleasant despite being a human.

"Why don't you give him a chance?"

Shinra narrowed his eyes, "Like you gave that brown haired human a chance?"

Ryosuke chuckled, "Yeah. Like that."

"Why do you go to such lengths to befriend a human who only yells and berates you." Shinra could not understand.

"Because he is my mate," Ryosuke answered, shrugging.

Shinra froze as he stopped walking, causing the other to stop as well, "You're mate?"

Ryosuke shrugged again, "Yup. I decided that when I first met him. I can't explain it. I just like the guy. He makes life worth living."

Shinra clenched his teeth, "Then he is not truly your mate. He is simply entertainment for you for the moment."

In a split second, Ryosuke had Shinra's collar in his hands, "Just because my kind doesn't have a fated mate like your kind does, does not mean my kind doesn't have a mate."

"Your kind beds many. Not just one."

"Well, I am different. I only want him," Ryosuke's eyes held fire in them, his Oni side coming to the surface.

Shinra remained silent not to anger the half-oni, half-tengu. At the moment, Shinra was basically as weak as a human with an invisible seal wrapped around his neck. His power sealed away so he would not harm humans. If it weren't for the seal, Shinra could easily dispose of the half breed.

"You'll see when you find your mate," Ryosuke said, letting go of Shinra's collar. "Your emotions begin to be irrational. You can't help but be in their presence all the time. They plague your mind on a daily basis."

"Sounds like a pain," Shinra cut him off, "But my mate will not be a mere human."

"Are you sure about that?"

Shinra glared at him.

Ryosuke turned his back on him to continue walking towards the temple they are dwelling in, "You're hatred might be clouding everything else. But I noticed how your bloodlust was fading away once you met Reizo. Don't deny it."

It was true. As insufferable as it was, he felt a sense of calm wash over him the moment he locked eyes with Reizo's silver ones.

But that doesn't mean he is my mate, he argued in his mind. Besides, he is a male on top of being a human. There is no way he is my fated mate.

Despite his denial, it was true that the boy caused him to feel a sense of peace he hadn't felt since he was a small child in his clan with a loving mother and father. Humans were the ones that took that all away.

I will never befriend a treacherous human again.

Shinra opted to stay silent the rest of the way back to the temple. His mind remained on the boy despite his best efforts to not think about him.

The next day, Shinra begrudgingly went back to that human school. He was sitting in his seat, bloodlust seeping from his being. His attention was pulled away from the window to the boy who placed his bag on the desk in front of him.

Much to Shinra's dismay, his bloodlust instantly faded as his eyes glanced at Reizo. Shinra frowned, disappointed in himself for allowing a human to have such control over his emotions.

"Morning," Reizo greeted him.

Shinra merely nodded as a response.

"Reizo~Kun~," Yuuto whined as he made his way to his best friend. "Please get him away from me."

Shinra noticed that the redhead was right behind the brunette. Ryosuke had left Shinra alone after entering the school, much to Shinra's relief.

He must have left me alone to go look for that human, he thought in disgust.

Thankfully the bell rang, making the strange couple leave to go to their seats. As the lesson started, Shinra's gaze fell to the boy sitting in front of him. He watched as the boy seemed to be taking notes and paying attention. Shinra couldn't be bothered. He did not care about doing well in a human school.

As he kept staring, he used his ability to see souls to see if he had imagined it yesterday. Sure enough, the prism looking soul surrounded the human's body.

Shinra sighed, why could he still see useless souls but could not have his other abilities. It infuriated him. Though, as useless as it is to see souls, he found himself staring at Reizo's. Something about his soul called out to him.

He quickly dropped the ability and glared in front of him. What had he been thinking?

This human is a problem, he said with a frown. If I did not have a seal on me I would quickly dispose of him.

But Shinra was aware that it wasn't any simple seal. This seal would also activate if he were to hurt a human. He would feel unmanageable pain. He knew that because he had tried it.

A memory I wish to forget.

Shinra bitterly sat next to Reizo again during lunch. He remained silent as he attempted to ignore the two in front of them as they continued to bicker. Shinra's mood soured.

He glanced at Reizo from the corner of his eyes, wondering how this human could handle such annoyances. He noticed the human wasn't paying attention to the other two. Reizo was simply eating his meal in silence.

Sensing Shinra's gaze, Reizo turned to look at him. He softly smiled at the white haired boy.

Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Shinra's heart betrayed him. He quickly looked away, frowning. Just what was going on with him? Had he lost his mind? Humans were his enemy. They took everything away from him. They all deserved to die.

He quickly wiped the memories that tried to resurface. He did not want nor need to go back to that terrible day.

"Yukimura-san," he snapped out of his thoughts to look at the boy next to him, "Is everything alright? You look pale." The worried tone made Shinra's heart beat faster.

"None of your business," he spat out harshly, standing from his seat and leaving. Being close to that human was dangerous.
