CHAPTER TWO: LIAR, LIAR
season 1 episode 2

🝮

ALICE LEANED AGAINST THE WALL, her arms crossed while she listened to Hailey, who explained to them how Tommy checked in everyday through cell, sending emails and videos, ensuring her and their younger brother, Ben, of his safety.

Then about three days ago, all contact from Tommy had stopped.

Alice had thought this was reasonable. Concerning, but reasonable. Blackwater Ridge has no reception at all as she discovered when her and Jamie were out there. It seems that Sam thinks the same about the lack of contact when he speaks up, "Well, maybe he can't get cell reception." Sam tells Hailey. In turn, she only dismisses his words and says that Tommy has a satellite phone which earns a nod from Alice, giving props to Tommy for being smart enough to carry one.

"Could it be he's just having fun and forgot to check in?" Suggests Dean while he leans against the wall, looking at Hailey.

His suggestion causes Ben to put down the spoon he was holding, his head snapping to Dean, "He wouldn't do that." He proclaims in a firm, defensive manner. Dean looks at the kid in surprise and Alice looks at him too, sensing the protectiveness a kid his age has for his brother, understanding what that's like. Alice can't help but feel bad for him, his brother could be gone and he's in denial, she knows the feeling all too well.

"Our parents are gone." Hailey informs them, putting down more food. "It's just my two brothers and me. We all keep pretty close tabs on each other." She states while looking down at Ben before looking back at Alice.

Again, Alice knows the feeling. Sure, she doesn't have a brother to protect anymore, but she understands the feeling and protectiveness you have over someone when everyone else you knew is gone. It's the same protectiveness she carries for Jamie everyday, the same one that only grows more and more with the Winchester's being here.

"Hailey, is it alright if I can see the pictures and videos he sent you?" Alice speaks up finally to which Hailey agrees, leading them to the computer and it's Alice to sit down on the chair. Sam stands behind her, his arms crossed while Hailey begins to pull up her brother's photos, Dean goes to stand behind her to see the images as well.

One picture is pulled up, showing them all what Tommy looks like. His smile is wide while he enjoys the wilderness. Hailey goes to click the next slide which is a video, explaining that it's his last message to them.

The video plays and they watch as Tommy greets his sister, telling her which day it is for him and assuring her that he and his friends are fine.

What catches Alice's eye however, is a blur behind Tommy. From outside the tent. It's a quick flash that could probably not be important, yet Alice finds an uneasiness in it.

Sam seemed to notice the same blur, leaning over Alice's shoulder to look intently at the screen, registering to what he saw. Both Sam and Alice look over each other, exchanging a shared look, knowing they caught something.

Sam's eyes went back to the screen while Alice looked over to Dean, wondering if he caught the detail. Instead, Dean began talking to Hailey, telling her that they would go and find her brother.

Alice tilted her head and scrunched her face at his words, finding it rather annoying that he was imposing himself onto her case.
