Off the wall

I woke up in Simon's room, which was expected. We hadn’t slept together, thankfully—I wanted to hold on to my innocence a bit longer. I dressed quickly and headed out of the room.

As I walked toward my own room, I accidentally knocked someone to the floor. It was a guy.

“Oh, sorry, sir. My bad,” I said, offering my hand.

“Watch where you’re going,” he replied, grabbing my hand to get up.

I looked up and saw that it was Asher. We stared at each other for a moment before he smiled and I returned the smile.

We just stood there, lost in our own thoughts, until someone cleared their throat. I was jolted back to reality.

It was Jenifer, licking her lollipop.

“Hey, you two. Why are you gawking at each other like that?” she asked.

“Uh, I was just passing by, and I accidentally knocked him down. Then...” I stammered, unsure of what else to say.

“Okay, cool,” Jenifer said, seemingly unfazed. “You wanna tag along with us to the hotel in Denissia?”

“Sure, no problem. Did he apologize to you?” I asked.

“Yes, he did,” Jenifer said, leaning in to kiss Asher.

“Okay, good. I’ll go pack,” I said, heading to my room.

When I got there, I found that my bags were already packed. That was really thoughtful of Asher. I grabbed my suitcase and left the room to catch up with Jenifer and Asher.

“Wait up!” I called as I rushed to catch them.

They were waiting in front of the car.

“I’m here,” I said, catching my breath.

“I’ll put my bag in the trunk,” I said, placing my suitcase in the car. As I closed the trunk, my phone rang.

“Hello?” I answered.

“Hello, am I speaking with Mr. Kaiden?” a female voice asked.

“Yes, and who am I speaking with?” I replied, feeling a knot of anxiety forming in my stomach.

“This is Hailey Brown from Epic Records,” she said.

“Okay, how can I assist you?” I asked.

“Mr. Tolla would like to talk with you,” she said.

“Tell your boss I’m not signing any contract. I don’t want to end up in a slave contract,” I said, frustration creeping into my voice.

“Sir—” she began, but I hung up in anger.

These record labels are the worst.

As I was about to get into the car, I noticed Jenifer giving me a stern look.

“What do you think you’re doing, Jay?” she demanded.

“I’m just taking a seat,” I said, nervous.

“In the passenger’s seat?” she asked, arms crossed.

“Yes, is there something wrong?” I asked, feeling a bit scared.

“YES, THERE’S SOMETHING VERY WRONG!” she barked.

“What is it?” I asked.

“That’s my seat. You’re sitting in the back,” she said, glaring at me.

I nodded in submission and moved to the back seat.

Asher glanced at me through the rearview mirror as he started driving.
