The way color drained out of her face, Sin knew he had stirred a shadow from her past. Her eyes first reflected shock before turning stoic into a glare.
"Don't," she responded, her voice tensed with warning.
He detected the fear underlying her grim tone. She was acting stern but deep down she was scared. Scared of what, he didn't know, but he was determined to find out. He gently cradled her face, sharing his warmth with her. She needed to know he was on her side and he asked because he cared.
"I can help," he coaxed. The tender look in his eyes urged her to share her deep-seated fear with him so that he could end it for her. She hadn't realized yet just how he cherished her. He will go to the ends of the earth to make it alright for her. All she had to do was open up with him. He sensed her defenses crumbling as her eyes shone with unshed tears. But that's okay he was right here to catch her and wipe off her tears. She just had to confide in him and he will take care of everything.
He felt a sharp, lancing pang in his chest as a teardrop broke free from the confinement of her eyes. The man who had spilled seas of blood was defeated by her one teardrop.
"Who hurt you, love?" he questioned earnestly, now desperate for an answer. The anguish in her eyes was cutting him. He wasn't able to see her suffering every night. There was nothing he could do but hold her while she begged and sobbed hysterically. And it would make him feel so fucking useless.
"I don't want your fucking help," she snapped, removing his hand from her face with a sharp motion. She shoved him off her before walking away from him.
She had managed only a few steps away when he caught her wrist, making her stop in her tracks. He came face to face with her. His eyes seething with a familiar madness.
"Every time you distance yourself from me, I feel the urge to scorch the entire world," he admitted, truth dripping from his words. His frustration was palpable but he didn't let it show on his face. He didn't want to scare her off, he just wanted her to know her cold treatment hurt him. It is only after she started treating him like trash did he realize he was not as immune to hurt as he believed. He just wants to be closer to her, to share her sorrow, and help her heal. Why can't she just let him be there for her?
His twisted confession made her uneasy.
He gently grasped her elbows. Drawing her closer, he continued, "But when you are close, everything else fades away. I feel content and happy," he confessed in simple words, still not sure why he felt that way.
"And when you are in my arms, I feel as if I have the whole word within my grasp. I experience a weird sensation inside my body..."
"You probably have contracted a deadly disease. You should see a doctor," she interrupted icily, feeling sick to her stomach.
Nivi wasn't a clueless frog like him. His dreadful confession had unsettled her. She refused to believe this man could ever fall in love. It was just his obsession and it was growing into something more fatal. She felt trapped in an ever-deepening chasm.
Breaking free from his gentle hold, he stormed off. The urge to get away from him was strong.
...........
"Why are you scowling at the wall? What this poor thing did to you?" Colin asked, making his presence known. Nivi snapped out of her thoughts and focused her attention on him.
"Nothing. I was just thinking something," she responded. Shock flittered through her features before concern took over after she noticed deep bruises all over his face.
"Did Sin also hurt you?" Nivi enquired, remembering Sin's anger towards him after he had learned about the incident.
Colin scratched the back of his neck, looking embarrassed.
