After the classical period of music the piano had huge changes. The strings were not straight anymore and they were angled slightly. In the romantic era the harpsichord lowered in popularity and there was no forte-piano there is now piano, we finally have the name we are used to. Now, composers like Chopin, Liszt, and Schumann (both) had a warmer tone on the piano. Romanticism replaced Classicism in music and the sound of the piano replaced the sound of the forte-piano. The romantic piano now contained pedals, a larger range (about 82 keys), and the naturals were white and the sharps and flats were now black.
As the piano replaced other keyboard instruments, in home acoustic (pipe) organs became less common, harpsichords became endangered as the years went on, and the clavichord is still made and manufactured but not popular. Now, the piano was a very popular instrument and was in many houses, sometimes, even houses that dont house pianists.
