It's almost been 2 weeks already, the camp is about to finish with the blink of an eye.
Jack started to have more fun, after that bonfire talk with Trevor. Trevor was now a friend, but with Trevor here, it felt just as special as with Ethan. He didn't really think about it at first, he knew that the first days of meeting a new friend was bound to be very fun. He didn't expect it to take his mind off of Ethan completely though.
For the past five days, he's been having quite a lot of fun with Trevor and the others, the friend group has the same number of friends but with one different person. Ivy was also partly hanging out with other people, but Jack started to not feel as uncertain about it anymore.
But it didn't feel right, because it just felt as if he's leaving Ethan behind. It sucks, doesn't it? Both of them has had a taste of it now that they met new people.
It was very awkward back in the lodge, Ethan wouldn't talk to Jack, or anyone except for the girl and only the girl. He still felt out of place being a part of her already existing friend group. Jack, however, was already talking to Trevor like they were brothers growing up, and had a lot of fun without Ethan, his best friend. He didn't even know if his best friend had changed, if he was still Ethan's best friend, but the tension between them still existed. And it felt wrong for Jack to have fun without Ethan like this.
He thought about it when it was a gathering of the bonfire, the same one when he first heard Trevor's name. It was warm with the heartfelt conversations he's been having with Trevor, and Henry now that he actually wanted to participate.
Henry: "2 weeks, blown to dust. How fast time flies, right?"
Henry said sentimentally, as he stared into the bonfire.Trevor: "Yeah, I can't believe it's half a month already."
Trevor was sitting next to him, and Jack was sitting next to Trevor. The warmth of the bonfire encased them all.
Trevor: "Summer always passes by so quick.."Jack: "I wish it could've lasted longer though, it's been fun hanging out with you Trevor."
Henry: "You two have just met and you guys are already the bestest of friends."
Trevor: "Just goes to show how fast people get along with you, Jack."
He said, looking at Jack, where he noticed the pensive expression.Jack: "Yeah."
The mention of best friend, reminded him of Ethan. It hasn't gotten any better, they're actually actively avoiding each other more than resolving it.(If we're so fast to get along, then it would be equally as fast to break apart.)
(Is this what it feels like to "let him have his fun"?)
He had thought, knowing that Ethan isn't approaching him out of his free will.
(Am I not a part of his fun anymore?)Jack: "Trevor, what are you going to do after the camp?"
He said, erasing his pensive emotions and replacing it with a faux glee.
Jack: "Anything interesting?"Trevor: "Hmm, nothing in particular. I don't plan things ahead of time, I just.. do things as I go along, I guess."
He continued to look into the bonfire, which was imprinting its flare into his pupils. The lingering shadow as it continued to burn, traced in his eyesight.
Trevor: "Except for the camp, I chose to go here so I guess that counts?"Jack: "Well I'm glad that you chose to come. Wouldn't meet you otherwise."
Trevor: "Or maybe it would take forever for us to meet."
Jack: "We'd be dead by then."
Laughs were shared between Trevor and Jack, and Henry was already seeing how close the two of them are already. It was admirable, really.
