Jungmin was walking home, lost in his thoughts as dusk settled in. His driver had insisted on giving him a ride, but Jungmin had declined, wanting some time to clear his mind. The events of the day weighed heavily on him, and he couldn't shake the strange feeling he had felt after seeing his father at the café earlier.
As he passed through a park, his eyes fell on a small boy who had tripped and fallen. Immediately, the boy's mother rushed to his side, gently blowing on his scraped knee and comforting him with soft words. The tenderness in the moment tugged at something deep within Jungmin. His chest tightened, and an ache he hadn't allowed himself to fully feel in years resurfaced.
A flood of memories and emotions rushed back to him. He had no memories of his own mother doing that for him. She was a void in his life, a question that had never been answered. His father always evaded the subject, brushing it off with vague statements, and it only deepened the emptiness.
Jungmin clenched his fists, feeling an overwhelming surge of frustration and pain. He couldn't keep living in the dark. He needed answers. Tonight, he would confront his father once and for all.
When Jungmin finally arrived home, he stormed inside, finding Jungkook in his study. His father looked up from some papers, sensing the tension radiating off his son.
"Jungmin?" Jungkook asked, a frown crossing his face. "What's wrong?"
Jungmin's voice was steady but filled with emotion as he said, "I want to know the truth about Mom. I can't take it anymore, Dad. I need to know."
Jungkook stiffened, his gaze hardening as he realized where this conversation was headed. "We've talked about this, Jungmin."
"No," Jungmin snapped, his voice rising. "We haven't talked about it. You've avoided it. You've been lying to me my whole life, haven't you?"
Jungkook sighed heavily, his face showing the weight of years of guilt and secrets. "I haven't lied to you, Jungmin. I've told you everything you need to know."
"That's not true!" Jungmin shouted, his emotions boiling over. "You always say she's gone, but you never tell me why. Is she dead? If she is, where is she buried? Why won't you ever tell me?"
Jungkook's expression grew tight, a mix of sadness and frustration. "She's dead, Jungmin. I've told you that."
"Then where is she buried?" Jungmin's voice cracked with desperation. "Tell me where my mother is buried!"
Jungkook's jaw clenched, and he stood up, pacing the room, his mind racing. He couldn't tell his son the real truth. He couldn't bear to destroy the image of the mother Jungmin had never known.
"I don't know where she's buried," Jungkook finally said, his voice low and firm.
Jungmin stared at him in disbelief. "How can you not know? She was your wife. My mother."
Jungkook turned to face him, his eyes filled with sorrow. "Because I didn't bury her, Jungmin."
Jungmin felt like the ground was slipping from under his feet. "What do you mean? What really happened to her?"
Jungkook's hands balled into fists at his sides, struggling to find the words. He couldn't tell Jungmin the truth. The truth that his mother had abandoned them, left them without a second thought, chasing after her own selfish desires. He couldn't tarnish her memory like that, not in front of Jungmin.
Jungkook's eyes were filled with tension as he sat at his desk, trying to suppress the growing storm inside him. Jungmin stood before him, determined, his face twisted in frustration and sorrow.
"I don't want to talk about it, so... go to your room," Jungkook said quietly, his voice heavy with emotion. "Jungmin."
But Jungmin's anger flared at the brush-off. "No! Today, I'm going to get my answers! You've been dodging this for too long!"
