KANROJI MITSURIS POV
When I meant, 'I wanna get revenge,' during my sobbing sesh with Shinobu Kocho in my room the night Iguro Obanai broke up with me out of the blue, I don't really think I could've sounded that serious. I mean like, through all the sobbing and stuff.
But now here Shinobu, Rengoku, and I are all sitting at a table in the Kimetsu' High courtyard during our lunch break, brainstorming ideas after Shinobu mentioned it to me, and Rengoku overheard.Honestly, I have no idea how Rengoku heard her over Tengen. — I mean, the man isn't really known for his excellent, detrimental hearing. He's more known for being such a determined student. The whole good hearing thing- that's more Uzi's style. Rumor is that Rengoku's already practically deaf- but that's also kind of just the freshmen spreading theories about the popular seniors through word of mouth. Or maybe it explains why he only responds to half of my questions and remarks sometimes.
And when I said everyone knows Tengen and Rengoku, I meant everyone. A couple months into senior year, and the freshmen know how absolutely everything social-status at Kimetsu High works. Kind of wish I paid that much attention when I was a first-year, not gonna lie.
"You could always do that!" Shinobu said in a hushed voice like she was telling me a secret that could wipe out Japans government in one swift move, holding up her pointer finger towards the sky. The whispering-toned voice wasn't really nessecary; she's acting as if anyone can hear her over Tengen and Rengoku boasting about their art class projects...to a crowd; albeit debating over whose was better in a friendly, joking argument.
"..uh.. do what exactly?" I smiled awkwardly, scratching my head. Tengen and Rengoku had distracted me from the conversation, pulling my focus. "Sorry, I was spaced out." I avoided looking at her face, because I knew there would only be a terrifying mix of enough disappointment and discontent to greet me back. The signature Kocho look, you could say? The look she gave whenever people asked her for homework answers. the look that would scare them off for good... I think you get it.
She probably gets it from her elder sister. Runs in the family. I've seen her in the hallways scouting out rule breakers — it's scary. She'd stand outside her classroom door during passing period, her eyes as sharp as a hawks. When I used to hang out at Shinobu's house after school, It's like Kocho Kanae changed personalities completely, to her home-persona, out of her teacher one.
Taking a quick glance to ensure my safety of the scariness shinobu held, I noticed that the despondent look I was originally expecting wasn't there. Instead she was just giggling at me with her hand over her mouth, the other hand hanging onto her wrist limply.
"Okay, okay! Quit laughing at me!" I squeaked out in surprise, punching at her playfully. Shinobu probably hadn't seen it coming, and proceeded to almost fall off the bench backwards towards the concrete ground beneath the table. Out of surprise- or reflex, I don't really know honestly, all I saw was her falling backwards; I leaned forward and caught her by the collar of her uniform shirt, nearly missing in the process. As I pulled her back up, she leaned forward over the table, breathing heavily. "What the fuck?!" She yelled, making Tengen, Rengoku, and multiple other of our peers stop their horribly loud conversation to look at us and see what the commotion was about.
Her eyes widened as she slowly turned to me, her knuckles white from gripping onto the table like it was the one who had pushed her and not my stupid idiotic mistake.
My mouth was agape, and I probably looked like a complete idiot. "I am so sorry!!!" I yelled, scooting towards, throwing my arms out and giving her a hug. She laughed nervously, patting my back and repeating that she was okay, though not returning the hug. But that's alright— she's probably just winded from nearly falling. happens to everyone, I get it.
