Maeve's alarm blared and she hit it, shutting the sound off. It was 6:30am. She was never a morning person. She'd rather stay up until 3am then wake up at 6am. That's just how she was. She was more of a night owl. But today, she had a very special reason to wake up early. The first day of her senior year. She had been looking forward to this for really all her life. She was so relieved it was senior year. All the classes and all the work was paying off.

She turned her alarm off and got up, going to her closet and looking through her clothes. She wore a white crop top, black ripped jeans and black combat boots. She recently cut her hair and she loved it short. It was so much easier to handle and now she knew why Tabitha loved her short hair so much. She curled her hair a bit and did her makeup. She then grabbed her backpack and phone along with her keys before she left her room.

She went down stairs where her little brother, Levi, was at the kitchen table in the kitchen where their parents, Wesley and Josie, were at. She smiled and waved to her family as she went over to the pantry and grabbed a poptart.

"Morning, honey. Ready for the big day?" Josie asked her daughter.

"Yeah! I can't wait. I just hate that Tabitha isn't here this year. But she said that she and EJ are doing great at college. So I'm happy for them." Maeve replied with a smile as she nodded.

"I'm sure you'll do great this year, kiddo." Wesley told her, smiling at her.

"Thanks, dad." Maeve responded, her smile widening when her mom handed her a to-go cup of coffee.

"We know you don't do well in the mornings so here is some coffee you can take with you." Josie grinned, watching as Maeve took the coffee and took a sip. Maeve had a mix of excitement and nerves bubbling inside her as she took in her family's supportive words.

"Thank you." Maeve grins. She starts eating her poptart as her parents talked with her brother about his day school. "Alright I gotta go." She said after she was done with her poptart.

"Ok. We'll see you tonight." Her parents said in unison.

"Bye, sis!" Levi called, waving at her.

"Bye, bud." She smiled, ruffling his curls and she left the house.

As she walked to her car, her phone started ringing. It was Tabitha.

"Hey, girl! What's up?" Maeve asked, smiling wide.

"Nothing much. Just wanted to see how you're doing. I know senior year is a big deal to you and all," Tabitha replies, chuckling a bit. "Also calling to make sure you woke up on time. I know you don't like mornings."

"Yeah yeah. I'm fine. And I got up on time so I'm good. Thanks for calling, Tabi. It means a lot." She grinned, feeling comforted by her best friend's thoughtfulness.

"No problem, Maeve. You're going to kill it this year! I miss you already, though. College life isn't the same without my partner in crime." Tabitha joked, but Maeve could sense the sincerity behind her words.

"I miss you too. It feels weird not having you around. But it'll be ok. You and EJ are living your best college lives and I'm gonna be fine. It's just one year. And senior year which is supposed to be easy and fun. I'm sure of it." Maeve assured, grinning as she opened her car door and got in.

"I hope so. Well I better go. But have a good first day. I'll talk to you later. You're gonna be fine!" Tabitha said reassuringly.

"Thanks, Tabi. I'll talk to you soon." Maeve replied before hanging up. She stared at her phone for a moment, feeling a pang of loneliness. Tabitha had always been there, especially during moments like these. But now, it was just her navigating this last year on her own. Well, technically not really, but without her best friend by her side, it kind of felt that way. Despite the two being a year apart in age, Tabitha and Maeve had always had a bond that was deeper than just two friends. They were like sisters, even though they didn't share the same blood.
