Her body was sore from the scuffle with Rachel, and she had a few bruises that would no doubt take a while to heal, but what was really gnawing at her was the drama between Nathan and Lucas. She knew that she had played a part in that fight.
She turned a corner near the gym and almost collided with someone tall and familiar. Looking up, she realized it was Nathan, wearing his usual hoodie and basketball shorts, looking surprisingly chill despite the events of the other night.
"Whoa," Nathan said, stepping back with a grin. "Slow down, there."
Emiliana laughed, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Yeah, I guess I'm good at making an entrance. How's the face?"
Nathan touched his cheek, which still had a faint bruise from Lucas's punch. "Could be worse. You?"
"Surviving," Emiliana said, wincing slightly as she adjusted her bag on her shoulder. "Sorry about... you know, everything. I never meant to come between you and Lucas. That fight was—"
Nathan waved her off, shaking his head. "Nah, don't worry about it. Lucas and I... we've got bigger issues than just you. It's not your fault. Well, kinda but not fully. We just know how to push each other's buttons."
Emiliana nodded but still felt the weight of it. She hated being a source of tension between people, especially people she cared about. She was about to say more when her eyes caught sight of a flyer taped to one of the nearby bulletin boards. The bold, colorful letters at the top read, "Fantasy Basketball League—See Lucas Scott for more information!"
She cocked an eyebrow and smirked, pointing to the flyer. "Fantasy basketball league? That sounds... kinky. I didn't know Lucas was into that kind of thing."
Nathan let out a short laugh, glancing at the flyer. "Yeah, it does sound weird when you say it like that. But it's not that kind of fantasy."
Emiliana crossed her arms, still grinning. "Oh, no? So it's not a bunch of hot athletes running around, shirtless, in some kind of elaborate role-playing game?"
Nathan smirked, shaking his head. "Nah, it's more like a draft. You pick players from the NBA and build your own team based on their stats. You get points depending on how they do in real games. It's all about strategy and knowing the game."
Emiliana tilted her head, pretending to consider it. "Hmm, so you're telling me it's like a basketball version of that nerdy game Dungeons & Dinosaurs, or whatever it's called, but with athletic, sweaty guys?"
