Amelie shifted in her seat, her tone gentle but direct. "And what about Conor? How have things been with him? Have you two spoken recently?"
I felt a slight heaviness return at the mention of Conor. "Yeah... we talked not too long ago," I admitted, trying to keep my emotions in check. "He's been acting really distant during the wedding planning, like he's avoiding me. I respected it, so I took a step back. It felt like he didn't want me around, and I didn't want to push myself on him."
Amelie nodded thoughtfully. "That sounds challenging. Did anything change after that?"
"Yeah, a few days later, he started texting me more and even calling me," I said, crossing my arms as I recalled the frustration. "But I kept my responses platonic. I just didn't want to give him the wrong impression or let him hurt me again. Every time I tried to keep it casual, though, he would act as if I was the one in the wrong. Like I was being unreasonable for not wanting to dive back into the way things were."
Amelie raised her eyebrows, clearly concerned. "That must have been really difficult for you."
"It was," I replied, frustration creeping back into my voice. "It felt like he wanted to have it both ways. He'd pull away, and then when I respected his space, he'd turn it around and make me feel guilty for not being there for him. It was exhausting."
Amelie nodded, her expression understanding. "That sounds really unfair to you. It's important to recognize that you're allowed to prioritize your feelings, especially as you navigate this new chapter with Ethan."
"Exactly," I said, feeling a bit of relief wash over me. "I think confronting Conor about my feelings and the fact that I'm seeing someone else has finally helped me set some necessary boundaries. I don't want to be in a situation where I'm constantly second-guessing myself."
Amelie smiled warmly. "You're doing the right thing, Lily. It's all part of your healing process, and you deserve to be with someone who values you and treats you well."
"Yeah," I said, my heart swelling with gratitude for the support. "I'm really starting to believe that now."
