Soohee
That evening, the group met up at the karaoke bar, excitement buzzing between them. It had been a while since they had a chance to just hang out and let loose without the pressures of school, relationships, or drama looming over them.
As soon as they walked into the cozy room with its neon lights and a massive TV screen mounted on the wall, Ni-ki darted straight for the microphone.
"I call dibs on the first song!" he announced, grabbing the remote and scrolling through the song list.
"Of course you do," Sunoo laughed, shaking his head. "Can't wait to see these legendary 'dance moves' you've been bragging about all day."
Ni-ki gave him a smug look. "Oh, you'll see. I've been practicing, and it's going to blow your mind. Trust me."
Soohee took a seat on the cushioned bench next to Jisoo, laughing at the antics of her friends. The tension from the past week melted away as they settled in for what promised to be a fun night. Jisoo nudged her playfully.
"You ready for this? You know Ni-ki's about to turn this into a full-on concert."
"I know," Soohee grinned. "I'm bracing myself."
Ni-ki had already picked his song—an energetic K-pop hit—and as soon as the music started blasting through the speakers, he was off, bouncing around the room and delivering the lyrics with more enthusiasm than precision. He didn't even attempt to sing on key, but his confidence and wild dance moves were enough to have everyone in stitches.
"Oh my God," Sunoo choked out between laughs, nearly falling off the couch. "What are you even doing, Ni-ki? Is that supposed to be a body roll?"
"It's called *style*," Ni-ki retorted, twirling in place and striking a dramatic pose. "You just don't get it."
"He's a genius," Jisoo said, wiping away tears of laughter. "I mean, look at him go!"
"I'm an artist!" Ni-ki declared, spinning again, but he misjudged his balance and nearly tripped over his own feet, sending everyone into a fit of laughter.
Soohee clapped along, unable to contain her amusement. "This is... legendary. You're setting the bar way too high for the rest of us."
Ni-ki gave her a wink and a bow when his song ended, breathing heavily from all the dancing. "Thank you, thank you. You're too kind. Now, who's next?"
"Okay, my turn," Sunoo said, standing up and cracking his knuckles dramatically. "Time to show you all how it's done. I'm picking something soulful."
"Oh no," Ni-ki groaned, sinking onto the couch. "Here comes the ballad prince."
"Ballad king," Sunoo corrected with a smug grin. He selected a classic love ballad, and as soon as the soft melody began, he closed his eyes and began singing with exaggerated emotion.
His voice, surprisingly on pitch, floated through the room, but he added so much drama to each line that it was impossible to take it seriously. At one point, he even dropped to his knees and reached out toward the ceiling as if he were serenading the heavens.
"Wow," Jisoo muttered, stifling her laughter. "So much... passion."
Soohee, biting her lip to keep from laughing, leaned over and whispered, "He's really going for it, isn't he?"
"Of course," Jisoo replied, barely holding it together. "He never does anything halfway."
When the song finally ended, Sunoo stood up, brushed imaginary dust off his pants, and gave a deep, theatrical bow. "You're welcome. I just blessed you all with that performance."
"Blessed?" Ni-ki scoffed, clapping sarcastically. "You were just extra."
Sunoo shot him a smug smile. "Just admit that you're jealous of my vocal range, Ni-ki."
"You wish," Ni-ki replied, rolling his eyes.
As they bantered, Jisoo selected her song—an upbeat pop track. She wasn't much of a singer, but she more than made up for it with her infectious energy. She jumped around the room, pulling Soohee up from her seat to dance along with her.
Soohee laughed, letting herself be pulled into the fun. They twirled around, belting out the lyrics and laughing at how ridiculous they both sounded. It was exactly what Soohee needed—carefree fun with the people she cared about.
When the song ended, everyone collapsed back onto the couches, out of breath but grinning widely.
"This is exactly what we needed," Jisoo said, wiping her forehead. "No drama, no stress. Just fun."
"I agree," Soohee nodded, feeling lighter than she had in days. "Thanks for this, guys."
"Hey, you're stuck with us," Sunoo said with a grin, slinging his arm around her shoulders. "Through thick and thin."
Ni-ki nodded. "Yeah, Soo, if anyone messes with you again, they're gonna have to deal with us."
"That's right," Jisoo added. "We've got your back."
Soohee smiled, her heart warming at their words. Despite everything that had happened recently, she was so lucky to have friends who genuinely cared about her. "You guys are the best."
"We know," Sunoo said with a wink, before grabbing the remote. "Alright, Soohee, your turn. What are you singing?"
"Oh, no," Soohee said, shaking her head. "I'm terrible at singing."
"We don't care!" Ni-ki laughed. "It's karaoke, you're supposed to be terrible."
Soohee groaned but finally gave in, scrolling through the list of songs. She picked an old favorite, something she knew she couldn't completely butcher, and stood up. As the music started, she felt her nerves kicking in, but her friends cheered her on, making her laugh.
Soohee took a deep breath and started singing. Her voice wasn't perfect, but it didn't matter. She had fun with it, dancing along to the beat and occasionally glancing at her friends, who were dancing and lip-syncing along with her.
When she finished, everyone burst into applause, and she bowed dramatically, playing along. "Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all night."
"That was amazing!" Sunoo said, beaming at her. "See, I told you you'd be great."
"Yeah," Ni-ki agreed. "Better than me, at least."
"That's not a high bar to clear," Jisoo teased, elbowing Ni-ki in the side.
"Rude," Ni-ki muttered, though he was clearly enjoying himself. "Alright, who's picking the next song?"
They spent the rest of the night taking turns singing and laughing until their voices were hoarse. Ni-ki eventually did pull off some decent dance moves, and Sunoo continued to deliver overly dramatic ballads, much to everyone's amusement. Jisoo tried her hand at a few rap songs, which ended up being both impressive and hilarious.
As the night wore on, Soohee realized just how much she had needed this. Her friends had a way of making everything feel lighter, even when things were tough. The picture and the message from earlier that week were still in the back of her mind, but for now, she was focused on the people in front of her—the ones who made her laugh, supported her, and reminded her that no matter what happened, she wasn't alone.
By the time they finally left the karaoke bar, it was nearly midnight. They all walked out into the cool night air, still buzzing with energy from the night's fun.
"Okay," Jisoo said, stretching her arms above her head. "That was the best idea I've had in a long time."
"I agree," Sunoo said, yawning. "But now I'm exhausted."
Ni-ki nodded. "Same. I'm ready to crash."
They all said their goodbyes, and as Soohee headed home, she felt a sense of peace wash over her. It had been a good night, a needed night. And as she thought about the day ahead, she felt ready to face whatever came next—especially with her friends by her side.
