GWEN'S P. O. V
"I'm home!" I called, shutting the door behind me with a soft thud. Dropping my bag by the stairs, I headed into the kitchen.
The house was unusually quiet, though it often was.
"Mom! ? Sirion!?" I called again, louder this time. I frowned—usually, Sirion would be at the door by now, and Mom... well, she didn't leave the house anymore.
"Meow!" Sirion's familiar voice finally answered, and I glanced down to see him weaving through my legs, his tail brushing against them.
"Hey, did you miss me?" I asked, crouching down to scratch behind his ears. He purred softly, nudging his head against my hand.
"Meow," he replied, his green eyes wide as he looked up at me expectantly.
"You hungry?" I scooped him up and carried him over to the kitchen island before grabbing his food from the cabinet. "Did no one feed you today?"
Talking to Sirion had become second nature to me. I squeezed out a pouch of cat food into his bowl, but he ignored it, letting out a more urgent meow as he rubbed his head against my hand.
"Sirion," I sighed, already knowing what he wanted. "You can't have cheese on everything," I muttered, however opening the fridge anyway. His eyes lit up as I grabbed the cheese.
"Yeah, yeah, you little cheese demon," I chuckled, sprinkling some onto his meal. He dove in eagerly, purring with contentment as he ate.
Giving him a final pet, I left the kitchen. "Mom!?" I called out again, but the house stayed silent, my voice echoing through the empty space.
A small knot of worry tightened in my stomach. She had to be here.
Concern gnawed at me as I moved through the house, heading toward the garden. She liked it out there—it had become her safe place over the last three years.
"Mom?" I asked softly, spotting her among the flowers. She was crouched low, her fingers delicately tracing the petals of a vibrant pink rose, as if she were entranced.
“Look at this one,” she murmured, a dreamy smile on her face, her eyes distant and unfocused.
I stepped closer, taking in the way she seemed lost in a world of colors and fragrances. “Mom, do you want to come inside? We could make some tea.” I suggested gently, keeping my voice calm and soothing.
“Tea?” she repeated, as if tasting the word. She straightened up, brushing dirt from her knees. “Oh, yes! But only if we can use the blue cups. They bring out the best in Peppermint tea.” Her gaze wandered back to the flowers, a slight frown knitting her brows. “I think the roses are whispering. Did you hear them?”
I shook my head, a small smile tugging at my lips. “Maybe they’re just happy to see you.”
“Happy… yes.” She beamed, her eyes sparkling in wonder.
"Oh! The blue cups!” she exclaimed, suddenly alert, as if a spark had ignited in her mind. “They need a special place on the shelf, you know. Otherwise, the tea gets confused and doesn’t taste right.” She straightened, brushing her hands on her dress as she glanced around the garden, seemingly searching for something invisible.
"yes I remeber, I'll be extra careful to put them back exactly" I reached out to take her hand. Her fingers felt delicate in mine, as if they might slip away at any moment
