~~~The Next Morning~~~
Taylor's POV
I woke up to a soft knock on my door. "Taylor, breakfast is almost ready." I heard Stephanie say from the other side of the door. "I'll be there in a sec." I stated, stretching and getting out of bed. I walked over to my closet and chose my outfit for the day. (Outfit at the top).
I got dressed and walked into the kitchen, grabbing the orange juice from the fridge. I poured me a glass and sat at the table as my mom was sitting a plate of food in front of me and my sister. "Where's daddy?" I asked, taking a sip of my juice.
"He left early this morning, said he wanted to get down to the store and meet the manager." my mom said, sitting between me and my sister. I nodded and began eating as my mom told us what the plan was for the day. Clothes and shoe shopping, hair and nails, and then school supplies shopping. I'm a sophomore this year and my sister is a senior.
Soda's POV
"Soda, c'mon please!" Ali practically begged from the door. "Give me one good reason I should go shopping with a bunch of teenage girls." I said, flipping through the tv channels. "Because it would be such a shame if Darry learned how his favorite football really got deflated." Ali said, smiling innocently.
I tossed the remote to Dally and stood up, walking over to the door. I grabbed my keys and looked down at Ali. "You're evil." I said, gaining laughs from the others. I walked outside to my car and got in. Ali, Izzy and Evie got in my car and I pulled onto the road.
"Where're we going?" I asked, stopping at a light. "The square." Ali said, turning the radio on. I began driving again as the girls nearly busted my eardrums singing. After a few minutes, I pulled into the square and found a parking spot. "Okay, I'm going to the food court, find me when you're done." I said, handing Ali some cash. She thanked and hugged me before walking off with the others.
I walked into the food court and bumped into someone. "Ah!" I caught the person and smiled when I saw Taylor. "I swear, I did not plan this." I grinned, helping her regain her balance. "Soda! Hey, how are you?" she asked, smiling up at me. "I'm great. I brought my sister and her friends to go shopping so I figured I could kill time here. How're you doing?" I asked, letting go of her hand.
"I'm fine. I'm here shopping with my mom and sister." she smiled. I was going to say something and then two other women walked up. "Taylor, let's go, we still have two stores to hit." the older one said, looking at me with a smile.
"Hello, I'm Judy Jackson, Taylor's mom. This is Stephanie, my oldest daughter." the lady reached out her hand, I took it and introduced myself. "It's nice to meet you ma'am. I'm Sodapop Curtis. It's okay to laugh, everyone does, my dad was sort of unique with names." I smiled, shaking Stephanie's hand as well.
"Well I think it's a very unique and different name." Mrs. Jackson stated with a bright smile. "Thank you, I won't keep y'all. It was nice to see you again Taylor. It was nice meeting the two of you as well." I said, smiling at Taylor. She smiled at me as her mom and sister walked off, her mom looked at her for a minute. "I'll catch up." Taylor said, her mom nodded and continued walking.
"I'm sorry about that, my mom is kind of straight forward and bubbly." she apologized, the smile never leaving her face. "That's okay, my mom was the same way." I stated, trying to work up the nerve to as her on a date. "I should catch up with them, it was nice seeing you again Soda." she smiled, beginning to walk after her mom and sister.
"Hey, Taylor," I said, she turned around and looked at me. "Would you maybe wanna go out this weekend? Y'know like... as... as friends?" I asked, stammering over my words. I could feel my face turning pink. She smiled and nodded, taking a piece of paper and pen from her purse. She wrote something down and handed it to me.
"Here's my address and phone number. I'd love to go out this weekend." she smiled, I grinned and nodded. "I'll call you tonight and tell you the plans." I said, she nodded and walked off to the store her mom and sister went in.
~~~

After a couple of ours and orders of chili cheese fries later, my sister and the other two girls walked up to the table I was sitting at, all carrying at least ten shopping bags each. "Geez, this is the longest shopping trip y'all have dragged me on." I said, standing up. "Sorry Soda, we kind of decided to get a lot of new clothes for school this year." Ali said, I took some of her bags and began walking out of the food court with the girls.

We put all of the bags in the trunk of my car and got in, heading back to the house. When we got there, Darry's truck was in the driveway. "That's weird, Darry's hardly ever home from work this early." Taylor said, getting out of the car. The girls got their bags and we walked inside the house.

"Hey, where've y'all been?" Darry asked as he saw me. "The girls drug me to the stores with them." I said, hanging my keys up. "Is everything okay? You're home early." I said, sitting on the couch. "Yeah, we got finished early today so we got to come home." Darry said, looking over the news paper.

The girls walked through to Alison's room and I waited for the door to shut before looking back at Darry. "I did it, I asked Taylor out for this weekend." I said, feeling nervousness wash over me. Darry set his paper down and grinned. "That's great. Where're y'all going?" he asked, I shrugged and sighed.

"I kinda figured I would just take her to the diner and get to know her a little more." I said and Darry nodded. "That's not a bad idea. I hope it works out well for you. You deserve it." Darry stated, standing up and walking into the kitchen.

Later that night, I went into the kitchen and called Taylor. The phone rang a few times before someone picked up.

Bold: Soda

Both: Taylor

Italic: Stephanie

Hello?

Hi, is Taylor there? This is Sodapop.

Yeah, let me go get her.

Hello?

Hey Taylor, it's Soda.

Hey! What's up?

I was just going to let you know, I'll pick you up at six Saturday night for that date. It won't be anything fancy so you don't have to get all dressed up or anything.

That's okay! I'll see you then!

Okay, I'll see you Saturday. Goodnight Taylor.

Goodnight Sodapop.

I hung the phone back on the wall and walked into the living room smiling. "What's up with you? You look like the Cheshire cat." Ali said, smirking at me. "Nothin, just don't ask me to do anything or take you anywhere Saturday night, I have plans." I said, grinning at Darry.

The others looked between us confused and then it hit Steve what I was talking about. "No way, you asked her out?" he said, causing the others to look even more confused. "Yes, Steven, now shut up." I said, laughing and walking to my room.

That night, I thought about Taylor. I couldn't stop thinking about Saturday night and hoping that nothing would go wrong. Then, my mind drifted over to Sandy and I felt the anxiety kick in. I shook the thought out of my head, taking a deep breath. Soon, I fell asleep with Taylor on my mind.
