Ruby's POV:
We went to the gym for practice, but it was the day we went beyond it. The date of competition was close; we must have a theme that can knock all that's written in their own minds on their feet. I glared around my team members and saw how some of them were warming themselves up in preparation for work while being excited at the same time.
"Okay, everyone," I said. "Let's switch it up today. We've got the team, we've got the energy, but now it's time to start thinking about performance. We need something big. Something that's going to get us noticed the second we hit the stage."
Ethan, always so full of himself, leaned back against the wall and cocked an eyebrow. "Besides our incredible dance skills?"
I groaned, but couldn't help smiling. "Obvi. But that is not enough. Competition goes beyond individual performance. That's about the package deal- the entrance, moves, and the overall energy. We need a name and a concept."
Danielle sat beside me and her brow furrowed deep in thought. "Of course, we must go wild for the entrance. Some kind of strong impression as soon as possible."
Myra bounces on the balls of her toes and the excitement spills over inside, "Something really explosive with lots of power like Stray kids' God's Menu. Or Thunderous?" - just something that should knock everyone in the mouth right from the beginning like if we were walking to the stage."
A few nods go around the circle. Thunderous had that fierce energy, while God's Menu was sharp and precise. Both songs could be killer for an entrance.
Seok-hoon cut in, "Yeah, but we need to make it our own. If we were to do just the exact choreography, people'll compare us to Stray Kids. We need to carry that energy and add to it with what we got."
"That's exactly it," I said, nodding. "We'll take their songs for inspiration, but we'll make the performance something no one's ever seen before. We have so many different styles in this group. Let's blend them. It'll throw people off in the best way."
Alexander crossed his arms, clearly thinking hard. "So what's the plan for the entrance? Like, how do we even start?"
I paused for a moment, the idea forming slowly in my head. "I'm thinking we walk in like we own the place. Confidence from the start, no hesitation. The lights are low, and then suddenly—bam—Thunderous hits, and we're already moving. We don't give the audience time to process what's happening. They're just immediately drawn in."
Dean grinned. "I like that. It's bold."
Danielle's eyes lit up. "And then we can go into God's Menu for the second half. That is just the right mix of quick and intense. We could show off everyone's talents-the hip-hop and the acrobatics."
"That is what I was thinking," I said. "We'll keep them guessing the whole time. Make them think they know what's coming and then switch it."
The look on Peter's face must have done something to the others too, because Peter finally cracked his mouth open. "I love it, but we need a name that fits this vibe. Something that says we're fierce, unique, and unstoppable."
The room went silent and we all started brainstorming, throwing ideas around some of which were good ideas and some not so good.
"How about something with 'Thunder' in it?" Tara suggested, "Since we're kinda going for that powerful and bold energy."
Danielle shook her head. "It's cool, but too on the nose. We need something more creative."
"Something that shows how we take all of these different styles and bring it all together," Zahra added. "Like, we're a force of nature or something."
We just sat there for a beat, lost in thought when Seok-hoon jolted upright. "Fusion?"
I looked at him, thinking it over. "Fusion. I like it. We are different, but we all belong to the same place coming together. It suits well."
"Yeah," Ethan replied, nodding in approval. "It's easy but says precisely what we stand for."
They nodded collectively, and I can still feel the excitement running inside the room. Now I knew it was true with the word fusion as against just the name to all that we were meant for-bringing our strengths along so that we could deliver into that system something fresh and wonderful.
Now we ran through the choreography. Everyone was more focused than ever; perhaps having names anchored our purpose. No longer was this a haphazard group of dancers. Now, we were Fusion, and we were going to take this competition.
By the end of practice, we had the overall concept of our entrance. And though we had plenty to do, I already sensed that this was it - the right road. We had a name, and the energy, and all was just fine-tuning until everything was ready and set for us to blow everything to bits. As we packed for the night, I couldn't help but smile to myself. We were getting closer. Soon, everyone would know the name.
Fusion.
