Photographs which are essential are permitted - such as those required for identity documents, or for identifying or pursuing criminals [e.g. "wanted" posters and the like - translator's note], or for educational purposes which cannot be achieved otherwise. The principle in sharee'ah is that we should not exaggerate about what is necessary.

Taking unlawful photos and videos of people is a grave sin...
What you do with them is also a grave sin.
Zina of the eyes must be avoided and lest you be shaded on Qiyama you have sacrificed to separate or not be with a person but only for the sake of Allah you shall be shaded on Qiyama I don't mean sacrificing for the sake of culture or society and status!
Satan wants to separate his wife from her husband and husband from wife and will do this by any means necessary...

If you want Jennah stop taking photos of people in private to cause slander or to romanticise and imagine a life with someone other than your wife or Husband...
Stop using them for sihir (blackmagic)
Stop looking at someone's pictures and giving them ayn la hawla wala quwata illah billah
Hasbunallah wa nimal wa akil
Allah is the exposer of affairs and the most severe in punishment
Repent now and He will forgive you or carry on and doom your akhira...
Accidental ones are different but it's still better to avoid it...
Using photos of people for pornograpgy, romanticising, sihir, and giving ayn whether accidental or on purpose is haram.
Taswir is haram Muslims must never paint portraits because on qiyama they'll be asked to bring them to life and they can't do it
As a volunteer face painter I stuck to nature, fruits, flowers, abstracts and fashion items . Any parents abstaining I let them do it themselves.
We don't hang portraits because the angels won't enter the home.
