"Isn't the left eye a little too big, Siyeon?" Siyeon simply rolled her eyes at the complaint.
"No Jiu, it's distorted, stop picking." Siyeon dryly said, standing up out of her crouched position and turning away from the drawing on the concrete wall.
Jiu chuckled, finding Siyeon's disinterest in her teasing amusing. But it faded out as a moment of silence replaced it.
They both stopped what they were doing to look at the lights echoing from the city.
It always seemed surreal at night.
The way the lights bounced off the glass of the tall and sturdy buildings. Or the way it seemed like a bundle of colors all jammed into one space regarding the neon lights. It felt like something oddly artificial but so natural at the same time.
Siyeon has grown up here ever since her sister moved to Seoul. Siyeon was only 6 and she can only remember this place, it's changed a lot over the years. She's changed a lot.
Her sister had to take care of her. Their parents were drug addicts and more often than not abused them and starved them. Not to mention their financial stability was non-existent since all they used their money on was drugs.
Siyeon will forever be grateful to her sister.
"This is all shit." Siyeon abruptly commented, moving her hair out of her face since the wind kept blowing it all over her line of sight.
Minji looked at Siyeon slowly. Narrowing her eyes a bit.
"What is?" Minji asked, crouching down and sitting on the dirty concrete as she turned her attention back to the city. Looking down at the passing cars and civilians since they were both on a hill.
Siyeon sighed, tucking her hands in her coat pockets, she looked down at Minji blankly, who was enthralled with the city. Typical Jiu, always staring at beautiful but painful things.
"This place, Jiu. It's shit.. I don't see anything special in it like you do." Siyeon answered, looking down at the ground as she fidgeted her fingers in her pocket.
"You fail to see the beauty in a lot of things, Siyeon." Minji argued, a small smile forming on her face just thinking of all of the things that were special about the city, or even just the culture behind it. The people, the children, the community. There were so many things she wouldn't even be able to remember all of them.
"Like your own face, why do you always keep that mask on? What's up with that?" Minji questioned, catching Siyeon off guard by the sudden topic change. Siyeon was being pressured now and she honestly should have saw it coming.
"I don't know, I guess it emphasizes my hobby... Plus, my eyes are all you need to judge me. Nothing else." Siyeon answered, sitting down alongside Jiu.
Jiu couldn't contain her laughter, she thought back to two years ago, when Siyeon always boasted about her face. And now she hides it everyday.
"That's funny!" Minji beamed, making Siyeon laugh along with her, it was kind of a stupid reason. But it was a stupid reason that Siyeon was loyal to.
A comfortable silence filled the atmosphere afterwards, the only sounds that could be heard were the crickets and the cars passing by on the road below.
If Siyeon were to be honest.
She actually loved the city, she loved everything about it. It was a community that she grew up with and she loves it dearly even if she denies it. It's vibrant, colorful, passionate, and of course, comfortable. She expresses herself through art, she sometimes goes around just painting or spray painting on random buildings, it may not be legal, but it's fun and it adds depth to the buildings.
