The school was going to host a beginning of school year masquerade party this Friday and of course us party goers during the murder especially did not want to go but Audie and I agreed that if we were to go we'd stick together. We weren't going to let past events hold us back from having fun.
Mom told us that we'd have to stick together as a group and never leave each other's sight for safety wise. This party was safer because it was in the school gym (1 floor) and had tons more people. This party was a school hosted event, teachers would be here and that meant this party was as about as dangerous as just going to school, I kept telling myself these things so I'd stop worrying, but an aching feeling kept crawling that i was next.
FIT-
"Omg girl, I'm kind of excited. This is like formal dance thing!!" Audie exclaimed joyously
we Rhine stoned masks and added feathers and designs, I still had a crippling feeling of fear, and continued gluing on the rhinestones.
"Yeah, it seems awesome!" I said pulling out a smile.
"We could go shopping and get a dress tomorrow!" Audie continued,
Audie was always so bubbly and kind, but when we saw her cry in front of us on the night of the murder, that was how you'd know something was wrong, she seemed different after the night, she was smiling. But there was always an undertone making her joy sound fake.
"What color?" I say, applying feathers to the mask
"Pink! Duh" Audie responded, she looked up "guess what?"
"What?" I said turning to her
"I heard Maddie is going to this party, probably ready to kill us" Audie said clenching her hands into fists, she obviously thought it was Maddie and she had this crazy hatred since that day..
"Audie, we don't know its her" I responded
"You're defending her?" Audie replied angrily
"No, no... we're not sure yet.." I said "Of course I think its her now, but what if it isn't her"
"What if it is" Audie said
"Audie stop" I said "Even if its her we have 0 evidence other than she was with Hannah.."
Audie sighed and got up "Wanna go get the dresses?"
"Yeah ..I guess" I mumbled..
DAY 2- (day before masquerade)
It was first period (art) I was painting a dog and my friend Diane was making a clay frog. We hadn't see Jessica since the party, perhaps she felt sick. No one had found her body so she was presumed alive. Maddie was making painting something, I caught a glimpse.
A painting with a red undertone, a skeleton and a pile of blood, and standing above the body was a tall blond guy with wavy-fluffy-ish hair and hazel eyes, resembling Maddox..
I froze, Maddox? did Maddie know who the killer was? Was it Maddox?
Maddie caught me eying the painting
"Is that Maddox?" I asked, confused
"Don't worry, It doesn't mean anything" Maddie said nonchalantly
"Who is that than?" I asked
"Just a character" Maddie replied still with a calm demeanor..
"oh.." I said "cool.."
"Look at my frog!" Diane said holding up her clay frog, changing the topic
the frog was detailed and specific and had a lily on it's head, it had blue eyes and angel wings.
"Cute" I said
"What's it's name?" Maddie said again sounding weirdly calm
"I don't know, I made it to honor my pet frog Lili, Lili isn't with us anymore though.."
Diane said smile fading "So uhm, Lilli I suppose"
"That's sweet" Maddie said turning back to her painting, she seemed worried looking,
"By the chance you know of Maddox Cadel?" She asked..
"So the painting is him?" I asked
"No, no.." Maddie said "of course not, he's a family friend and I just wanted to ask"
"Maddox?" Diane said "him?"
"Can I tell you a secret?" Diane whispered at me and Maddie
"I like him, just don't tell him that!" Diane said smiling
Maddie composed a smile "Pinky promise"
she still had a worried scared feeling..
"Does he know who you exist?" Maddie said
"Yeah! We talk ALL the time!" Diane said smiling happily again
"Ooooohhh!!" Maddie said giggling
but she still had scared and worried eyes..
