Ron's POV
The Yule Ball came only closer as the days passed by.
Harry and I had the same problem for once.
Neither of us had gotten a date.
I already knew who I wanted to go with but the problem was that I didn't know if I should ask her.
I'd never gotten the chance anyway, she never left Harry's side.
I didn't want to admit it but it somehow got to my guts. The last time I'd seen her alone she'd been talking to Krum.
For some reason he didn't seem that brilliant to me anymore. I'd began to hate the guy's guts.
"We really need to find someone.", my best friend said while we were in the Great Hall, doing homework. Snape prowled around in the hall meanwhiles.
"Bloody hell, I know.", I hissed as Snape walked by. "It's only some weeks left and , blimey, Harry, you're one of the champions."
He groaned and Snape shot him a look. He reluctantly returned to his books.
I, on the other hand, glanced around the room. Hermione sat a few seats away from us, studying like a lunatic. I couldn't help but grin. Then the opportunity hit me. I left my chair slowy and walked over to her nonchalantly. She hadn't spotted me yet and I took the chance to get an even closer look at her. Her brown, bushy hair fell over her eyes multiple times and she repeatetly pulled it away. Her nose got those cute wrinkles when she thought hard and she had this habit to swirl the pencil in her hair. Suddenly her warm eyes stared back at mine.
Embarrassed, I went over to her. "Urhm, Hey.", I mumbled.
"Hey.", she replied and looked baffled at the sight of me."Do you have problems with your essay?"
It was my turn to look baffled. I furruwed my eyebrows and shook my head."What? No. No, of course not..", she raised her eyebrow at me."I'm not here because of that.."
"Oh.", she said but still looked baffled. She gestured towards the chair opposite her to me to sit down. I obeyed her and slowly sat down, putting my elbows on the table.
A silence fell over us.
"So, what is it that you want?", she asked to break it and put her books aside. I couldn't find my courage anywhere. Why had the stupid Hat sorted me into Gryffindor in the first place? I collected myself and sighed deeply.
"All right, I.. I kind of.. You know..", I couldn't stop studdering. It was so frustrating. She didn't even know what she was doing to me!"I-I wondered ifyouwantogoballwithme?"
She frowned and looked even more puzzled and I didn't blame her. There was no way she could make out what I'd just said.
"Hermione.", I said seriously but stared at the table so my hair fell over my eyes, covering them."Do you want to go to the Ball.. with.. me?", I reluctantly looked up but immediatley regretted it. Her lips were slightly parted, as she was surprised but there was pity in her eyes.
"Oh.", she said slowly. It felt like years before she opened her mouth again."Ron.. It's just.. I've already been asked..". My heart fell down to my toes and I had to bit my tongue to not let her know how I felt.
With a lot of effort I smiled at her."Oh, great! You know, I just asked in case you hadn't gotten anyone. It's just sad for a girl to go alone, but for a boy..", I shrugged my shoulders. Hermione narrowed her eyes at me.
She snorted."Yeah? Oh, I get it! You know, Ronald Weasley, you somehow manage to always be the git who ruins everything!", she was standing up now but kept her voice as a hiss.
I stood up too."Oh, Yeah?", I said challenging."You better see if that Pumkinhead already has a date!"
She shook her head at me, baffled but slightly angry."Just.. leave me alone.", she murmed on her way passed me. I felt an urgue to call something after her but refrained. I sighed and glared at the people around me. A boy from the first year looked at me.
"What're you looking at?", I hissed at him and he terrified turned his back at me. Muttering on my way, I headed back to Harry.
He didn't seem aware of mine and Hermione's fight, luckily, so there was no need for that kind of discussion.

It ended up with Harry going to the Ball with Padma but I didn't feel like getting a date anymore.
The Dressrobe my mom had gotten me was awful, though, so maybe it was for the better, anyway.
Disgusted, I looked at myself in the mirror.
"Come on, Ron!", Harry impatiently called at me from the door. Sighing, I turned to join him.
Padma met him in the Hall Way and soon McGonagall found them, telling Harry that he was meant to introduce the dance. Sending me a terrified look, he stambled away with Padma's arm on his.
Rolling my eyes, I impatiently waited. For what, I did not know.
The time went awfully slow and I was almost bore to death when someone gasped. Turning around with furrowed eyebrows, I saught for the source of the sound. I didn't find it however beacuse on the top of the stairs, the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen was standing.
Her blue dress was fitting her perfectly and the colour made her hair seem more salient. She'd done something with it, it wasn't as bushy as usual. It looked very silky and she had made a nice look with it. She made everything look so much uglier. My heart started to beat faster and warmness spread on my cheeks. The blue colour of her dress shifted and at its lower points the colour turned darker and darker. I hadn't noticed that I'd been gaping but when she saw me, I immediatley closed my mouth. She gracefully walked down the stairs. To my astonishment, she seemed to walked down to me.
I couldn't believe it! She was smiling but her eyes weren't exactly on mine. First I just thought she was just smiling at her admireres but just before she reached down to me, she switched directions.
A massive body dress with a dark-red fabric met her. I narrowed my eyes at my former role model.
So it was him she was smiling at. So be it. I saw the two of them walking into the hall and just before they passed me, Hermione met my eyes. Her happy face turned into an ice-cold stare.
Staring just as cold back, I saw them disappear in the crowds.
But then it hit me.
The awful pain.
It started in the left side of my chest but soon was spread all around it. Breathing deeply through my nose, I followed the crowd into the Hall, where all the campions were dancing around with their dates, including Pumpkinhead and the Ice Queen.
