now pay attention you suck at english𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐀'𝐒 POV:
Shane didn't suck at English, I lied. He's intellectually brilliant. He came out top of all of his academic subjects last year, scoring the highest scores the school had seen in years. Obviously, from time to time, blunt teachers accused him of cheating but Shane was genuinely bright. But he never cared. The only thing he wanted to pursue was music. Another reason why he is so genuinely attractive. He could have the knowledge that every high school student who craved academic validation, genuinely desired to have, but he didn't feel the need for it. He knew what he wanted. He was smart, but he wasn't stupid enough to succumb to the materialistic drive to obtain intelligence.
The four lessons I had on Wednesday flew by and eventually I was stood outside the lockers with Mags, waiting for Shane, and her waiting for Jules.
"So are you and Shane still just friends?" Mags asked, filling the silence that roamed the air. "Yeah but we may or may not be about to go on a date!"
Mags squealed, "AGH, RENA!" She smiled and hit my arm playfully. I smiled back and just as I was about to join in squealing, Jules and Shane came out of their class, along with the rest of them.
"Hey, guys!" Jules said as she pulled me into a hug, "Shane told me about rip-off Courtney Love earlier, she's such a jerk." She smiled reassuringly as Shane shot me a 'Sorry!' look but I just smiled and shook my head as though it didn't matter.
"So, we better get going," Shane said, as the conversation died down, "Is it okay if we head to mine, my dad texted me he wanted to talk about something?" I nodded happily, but inside I was confused. Taylor, Shane's dad, was never serious about anything and I loved it. He's the best fuckin drummer in the world and he's smoking hot. But don't tell Shane I said that, even though he knows exactly how I feel.
As Shane and I walked away from Jules and Mags, we head to the bus stop. "Shit, I don't have any cash," I muttered quietly as I was rummaging through my bag, looking for some coins. "Don't be stupid, I'll pay," Shane rolled his eyes harmlessly and said, "You just have to say the words."
The 'I'm better than you debate has been going on ever since we were 5. I almost never had to say it but on the contrary, Shane always was. I'm not entirely sure what started this debate but I've been winning for years. "Fiiine," I rolled my eyes back at him and proceeded to say, "I guess, you're better than me." Shane pulled me into a hug and laughed, "92-18, the beginning of my comeback, huh?"
Falling out of each other's embrace and laughing quietly, Shane began to say something but just as he did, the bus pulled in. We let the other people at the stop get on first, mainly because the majority of them were elderly people so it was the right thing to do. As the pair of us got onto the bus Shane pulled out his money and asked for two tickets to the stop on his block. "Wait, holy shit man, you're Taylor Hawkins's son aren't you?" Shane turned a light shade of red but still kept that charming smile on his face. As he passed the money over, Shane replied and said, "Yeah, haha good to see you man!"
I collected both of our tickets and thanked Shane again for buying the tickets and he brushed it off and said I didn't have to thank him. As we sat down at the back of the bus, with the row to ourselves, I gently rested my head upon Shane's right shoulder out of exhaustion, it had been a busy day.
The pair of us didn't talk too much on the way home but as we were nearing the stop, Shane pressed his face into my hair and gently kissed the top on my head. We didn't say or do anything, I just smiled. That's the thing with us. We don't talk, we just exist side by side and it's perfect. Shane by my side is all that I need.
From the bus stop we had to walk about five or six minutes to Shane's place, and as we left the bus the driver gave Shane a smile and the guy said, "Tell your dad I'm his biggest fan, man!" Shane laughed and assured that he would. I giggled with Shane as we started walking. He looked down to his feet and then grasped my hand, squeezing it lightly. Shane turned to me and smiled again, and as I look back to him, to smile, I tripped.
Just before I hit the ground, Shane grabbed my back, as though he were dipping me. God what is this?
The pair of us laugh as Shane pulled me back up to my feet and I readjusted my backpack as we got to Shane's house. His dad's van was parked out front but his mom's car wasn't there, so I automatically assumed she was at my house, probably gossiping to my mother haha.
"Shaney boy? Is that you?" Taylor called from inside his studio as we walked through the front door. Shane's home was my safe place. You could constantly hear the banging of drums or the heavy guitar sound radiating from Taylor's music studio and their was always a sweet smell, along with a dash of cigarette smoke, but it smelled like Shane. Like home. "Yeah, Rena's here too, we're off to the movies later."
Taylor emerged from the studio, grinning from ear to ear as he picked me up into a hug and spun me around, "Hello, Miss Serena." He smiled and placed me back onto the ground as Shane rolled his eyes. "Hello, Taylor," I chuckled lightly from the fairground ride I'd just been on, moving back to Shane's side. "What did you want to talk about Dad?"
Taylor lead us through to his studio couch and Shane and I sat down, facing his Dad. "So, you know how the Foos are going on tour in in couple days until the 20th?" Shane and I nodded profusely, growing more and more intrigued. What if he asked us to go with him?
"Well, there's about five or six Chevy Metal shows in that time and Wiley asked if you'd be able to drum for them?" Taylor smiled at Shane, excited by his own words. Chevy Metal we're the best fuckin metal cover band and Taylor was their drummer. "Oh my god, really?" Shane exclaimed, his jaw wide open.
"The only issue is, you'll be goin to Chicago for about two and a half weeks but you won't be by yourself," Taylor tried to cover up the issue with a compromise, "There's a girl from you school who will be there to keep you company," I was praying deep down that it was me but there was no way, "The sound tech, Mark Brown's daughter, I think she's called Rachel." I know that name.
Rachel motherfucking Brown.
