CHAPTER 91: The Road to Reconciliation
The ride back to U.A. from the Todoroki residence is quiet at first, the silence filled with the hum of the car's engine and the muted sounds of city traffic outside. You sit between Izuku and Katsuki and Shoto besides Katsuki, who seems visibly annoyed by how cramped the car feels. Endeavor, seated at the front, soon breaks the silence, announcing that, alongside weekends, you’ll also be working at least two days during the school week. Izuku glances your way, a thoughtful expression on his face.
"Y/N, would you help me with English? Finals are around the corner," he asks with that familiar look of determination. You can’t help but smile at his eagerness, nodding.
"Sure, as long as you help me with Maths in return," you reply. Izuku’s face lights up, and you feel the warmth of a shared pact.
As you chat quietly, Katsuki mutters something under his breath about the car's lack of space. Endeavor’s driver, Untenmaru Kurumada, overhears and snaps back, seeming genuinely surprised that the Number One Hero has taken students along for such an assignment. Before anyone can respond, the air suddenly feels tense. There's a quick, sharp sound—a disturbance up ahead that makes everyone alert.
Just then, the car is attacked. White lines stretch across the road, manipulated by a figure standing further down the street. Your gaze follows the direction of those lines until you see Natsuo Todoroki, entangled and dangling in the air. The sight of him, helpless and vulnerable, makes your pulse quicken.
In an instant, Endeavor bursts out of the car, fire blazing around him. His figure is a mix of controlled fury and concern as he confronts the villain. The villain, Ending, recognizes him and begins speaking—obsessively recounting how he’s always admired Endeavor, envying him for everything he represents, everything he could never have. His request is chilling: he wants Endeavor to kill him, to be burned out of existence just like Endeavor did with the Nomu.
You and your classmates spring into action. Katsuki, Shoto, Izuku, and you burst from the car, preparing yourselves as Untenmaru tosses out your hero gear. Izuku, quick on his feet, grabs the equipment and hands it to each of you. The intensity in his eyes tells you he’s ready to act.
Ending’s Whitelines lash out, trying to overwhelm you all, but you move as one. Your training with Endeavor has sharpened your instincts, allowing you to dodge and counter Ending’s attacks with swift precision. There’s a moment where Ending hesitates, seeming almost frustrated by your interference. You see Endeavor pause as well, his eyes fixed on Natsuo’s fearful face. Something inside him seems to waver.
Without another thought, you and your classmates press forward. Shoto charges ahead, his ice crackling as he stores up power. Ending, desperate and cornered, raises his Whitelines, hoisting nearby cars with innocent civilians inside. He swings Natsuo toward the path of an oncoming train. It’s chaos—everywhere, there’s something or someone in danger. Yet your mind is clear.
Katsuki rockets forward in a burst of explosions, reaching Natsuo in the nick of time, and yanking him out of harm’s way. You watch as Izuku leaps, focusing every ounce of his energy to release Blackwhip, grabbing as many falling cars as he can, while you activate your own quirk, reaching out to stabilize the remaining ones. "No one’s dying today!" Izuku’s voice rings out, fierce and resolute. Shoto finishes the scene with a blazing punch, sending Ending flying back, and you follow suit, freezing him in a block of ice. Around you, the civilians cheer, thanking the four of you for saving them. As you take a moment to catch your breath, you notice Endeavor watching you all, an expression of awe in his eyes.
Endeavor approaches Katsuki and Natsuo, and in a rare, unguarded moment, he pulls them into an embrace. Katsuki wriggles free almost immediately, scowling, but Natsuo stays in his father’s grip a little longer, his expression conflicted.
