Kokushibo could barely believe his two eyes. There, on the ground, sat his wife Haruhime with her signature teal kimono. Her teal colored eyes had a hint of disbelief and pain in them while she laid there on the ground with a few bruises on her hands that was caused by beating. That was more than enough for the demon to loose his composure. He turned to the group of men and spoke in a low and threatening voice. "Which one of you scumbags dared to touch her?" Kokushibo's words shook the men and his wife to the core. "I did." One of the men said, not taking Kokushibo's threat seriously. He was dressed in an elegant kimono while his hair was tied in a neat bun like the other noblemen. His bangs cascaded upon his forehead, hiding his veins. "She's my fiancée after all." Those words shattered Kokushibo's heart into pieces. He forgot about her during the Sengoku Era and now he had to hear those words from a stranger's mouth. However, he didn't show it. He kept his composure. He offered a hand to Haruhime, but she politely rejected it. He never felt more heartbroken. The sting in his heart grew as Haruhime struggled to stand up on her own. He felt tears threatening to fall down his pale cheeks, but kept them inside to maintain his elegant demeanour. Haruhime kept looking down. This was unlike her. She always held her head high no matter what. He couldn't believe that a scum of a man was the reason for her decrease in self-esteem. Or... was it him? He scanned her body, and his heart cringed in pain as he saw multiple bruises, both old and fresh ones all over her body.

"Do you know him, wench?" The nobleman said. It made Kokushibo's blood boil so much that everyone could notice the sudden change in his aura. Soon, Haruhime took a deep breath and answered him. "No, Master. I do not know him." She said, looking down, but he was able to smell the salty tears coming from her eyes. Kokushibo clenched his fists. "We still need the debt that her ex-husband left." Another man said. Kokushibo shot them a glare. "I know you. You're the one that came to my house and asked my wife for a debt that I did not make." He said. It made the man's face morph into shock. "Leave before I change my mind about hurting you." Kokushibo said, and it made the men cower in fear. His tone and aura gave a sense of dominance that no one dared to oppose him. The men ran away. Meanwhile, Haruhime and her new fiancé watched in disbelief and slight fear. The nobleman looked at Haruhime. She saw him with admiration, disbelief and a bit of hope. The nobleman held her arm tightly. "What are you looking at him like that?" He spat at her. Haruhime looked at the nobleman in fear. "That's not how a nobleman should treat his fiancée." Kokushibo said calmly. "Don't tell me what to do." He spat and attempted to punch him. Kokushibo blocked it with ease. Everyone slowly started to gather around them.

You came after Kokushibo, realising that he might run into his wife. You pinpointed his aura in the centre of a crowd in the market. You quickly tucked your hair inside your shirt and put a cloth to mask your face. You proceeded towards the crowd. Kokushibo broke the nobleman's hand. The cracking was heard by the entire crowd, followed by his agonised screams. Haruhime could only stare at her ex-husband in shock as the scene took place before her. You intervened. "Aniue, please stop. I know that you can't tolerate injustice towards women, but you mustn't mingle with the noblemen. Who knows how bad they will get back at us." You said calmly. Kokushibo looked at you in disbelief, but calmed down nonetheless. You bowed to Haruhime and dragged Kokushibo out of there while he was forced to follow you, clenching his cold, aching demon heart. He began to shed tears as he heard the nobleman take Haruhime to the nearby alley and punch her stomach. He stopped, making you almost loose your balance. "That was your wife, right?" You asked while turning to him. Kokushibo could only nod. His voice betrayed him as his words turned into silent sobs while he exhaled. He was able to speak after a few seconds. "I... I need to get h-her away from him. I-I can't stand him hurting... her, I-" He said before his words again turned into silent sobs. You gently hugged him while rubbing circles on his back. "I know how badly you want to get her away from him. But keep in mind that this is not our Era now. To make matters worse, we messed things up when we showed ourselves to the Hashiras of this Era. We can't mess up anything else." You said softly while wiping his tears away. The words hurt him, but your voice made him want to obey you no matter how much it hurt. Besides, you got a point. He didn't want to return to a home where nothing is how he left it. He still got Muichiro, and he also started to like Zenitsu's company.
