The next day, the announcement was made at Sterling High: all the students would be moving into the exclusive Skyview Residences—a luxury apartment complex right next to the school. It was part of an initiative to give students a taste of elite living while making their school life more convenient. For Amy Rose, this wasn’t a big deal. She had lived in places like this before, surrounded by luxury and perfection. But the idea of living so close to her classmates, and especially to Sonic Melicus, made her feel uneasy in a way she couldn’t quite explain.

Amy and her friends—Rouge, Blaze, and Cream—arrived at Skyview Residences after school, chatting amongst themselves. Amy was excited about the change of scenery but was also restless. She couldn’t shake the thought of Sonic. His indifferent attitude, his unapproachable nature for girls while he's on the little to sarcastic on with his friends but it was like a magnet pulling at her curiosity, but she didn’t want to admit it.

As they entered the elevator, Amy stepped in first, her thoughts still drifting. She pressed the button for the floor and stood back, trying to act casual. She wasn’t expecting to see anyone interesting—but to her surprise, Sonic Melicus was already inside, leaning casually against the back wall, his eyes focused on his phone, fingers scrolling as if he had all the time in the world.

The elevator doors slid shut with a soft hum. The space between them was small, but Sonic didn’t seem to care. His posture was relaxed, too relaxed for someone who was usually so distant. Amy tried to ignore him, but the tension in the air was undeniable. Neither of them spoke. Amy glanced briefly at him, but he was still absorbed in whatever was on his phone. His bad boy aura was undeniable—even in this silence.

Amy turned her attention to her friends, who were whispering quietly to each other, trying to avoid making a scene. She could feel the heat in her cheeks and fought the urge to look back at Sonic. There was something about him, something different from the other guys. But she wasn’t going to let herself care.

The elevator stopped at their floor, and the doors opened. Sonic stepped out first, still not looking up from his phone, his steps slow and deliberate. Amy followed, trying to keep a calm and composed expression.

As they reached their respective apartment doors, Sonic paused. He glanced at the door next to his, then back at Amy, who had stopped in front of her own apartment.

“Guess we’re neighbors,” he said casually, his voice low but not unkind. He didn’t really expect a reply, and his tone didn’t demand one. It was just a statement.

Amy blinked, surprised by his words, but quickly recovered. She wasn’t one to show weakness or curiosity. She nodded stiffly, her voice matching his cool tone. “Yeah, guess we are.”

Without another word, she unlocked her door and stepped inside, feeling the weight of the silence lingering in the hallway. Sonic stood for a moment, staring at his door, his phone now back in his pocket. There was something about her—the way she wasn’t phased by him, the way she carried herself. It felt like a challenge, and for once, it bothered him.

But he quickly shook the thought off. He didn’t care.

He entered his apartment, the door clicking shut behind him. The sounds of the city faded away, but his mind lingered on the brief interaction, wondering if he’d be seeing more of Amy Rose now that they were neighbors.
