Tonight was just supposed to be an escort mission.
It was only supposed to where I follow the client to their destination and make sure nothing goes wrong.
Well, it did.

It all went to hell. And guess who was blamed? Me.
The client was killed by their own contact. And it was a setup.

I race through the alley, the horrifying scene replaying in my mind. Me trying to save the client. The contact pointing the gun at me. Running. The pain of the bullets in my shoulder and my leg slowing me down.

Finally I reach my car and get in. For the next few minutes I drive in silence, checking my mirrors to see if anyone was following me. I continue, taking the long route. I reach the Academy building and drive into the hidden garage.

I look and what I see shocks me.
Guards laying dead on the floor cut up in a way only an Assassin could pull off. Precise and deadly.
I continue further and look into the Academy dorm room.
What was inside was what sickened me. Innocent children slaughtered. I know what you are thinking: Innocent? They are being trained to kill. The thing is though, we trained them to kill but as a form of defense or when all of the nonlethal options are unavailable.
A real heartless person would kill children.
I leave the room, searching for other survivors.
I reach the Boss's floor and I knock twice.
I strain my ears and I hear a weak "Come in."
The door opens as I push it inwards, almost breaking off of its hinges.
"Dragon, you're alive."
I see a familiar figure peel themselves away from the shadows.
"Annie," I croaked. I limp across the room and hug her tight.
"Is there any surviviors?"I
step back and the way I stand says everything.
Her shoulders sag.
"Not even...?"
"Not even the children were spared, Annie,"I said grimly. "Boss...?"
"She was killed too, Dragon," Annie replied.
"So we are the only ones left," I said.
I look around and I see another familiar figure slumped against the chair. I lift a lock of hair and I recoil.
The dead, unseeing eyes of Boss look back at me and a bullet hole in the middle of her forehead. But that wasn't what shocked me. It was the slices across the mouth that disturbed me. A clean cut on the ends of her mouth stretched up to her cheeks in a sort of gruesome smile.
A flash of white catches my attention.
I move Boss's cold hand and pick up the card underneath. It's a playing card and on it is a Jack. Except the Jack has a knife in one hand and a brutally cut body in the other. I flip the card over and written on the back in a fine script says "The Ripper is back from the dead."

"Who is the Ripper, Dragon?" Annie asked.
"He went by another name many centuries ago. He was a murderer who lived in London and his trademark was a butcher like crime scene. The victim would be covered in multiple lacerations to the point that the body was not recognizeable. Then one day, he just disappeared. People say he was finally caught and killed but there was no evidence to prove it. Some say he was a demon sent straight from the very depths of Hell itself. That's why no one has ever found him. Or if they did, they never lived to tell the tale,"I said grimly.
"You said centuries," Annie replied. "You mean this guy is a-"
"This could be an Assassin who took the name of Jack the Ripper and just decides to go and kill people for his entertainment," I said abruptly. "Or it could be that this is the actual Jack and he really is unkillable or something."
