Miss Peregrine let out a small groan as she opened her eyes, a dull pain in her head. She went to stand up when she seen her ankles were bound together as well as her wrists, a burning from the rope in her arms when she went to maneuver out of them. The ymbryne went to say something, but it was difficult to do so with the cloth between her teeth, blocking her from doing so. Alma tried pushing herself up against the wall, but she couldn't get much more than an inch off the ground before she sat back down on the floor, letting out a frustrated noise.

"You're finally awake."

The ravenettes gaze quickly moved towards the corner of the room, watching as the man moved out of the shadows, a glare tearing through her features when she seen who it was.

"Miss Peregrine, it's delightful to see you again." Barron smiles, walking over to her, but the ymbryne held her glare. "No need to look so down. I brought you a gift." He says, flashing his teeth when he grinned.

Alma held her hostility towards him, but grew a bit uneasy when he went to grab something, the ymbryne noticing it was a person.

"I found this little one trying to break in." He mutters, pushing her ahead of him.

It was y/n.

The woman immediately recognized the little girl, trying to undo the ropes on her wrists and shouting something that was muffled. Her glare darkened when Barron took a step forward, yanking the girl back so he could move forward.

"Not to worry though, I will take great care of her later." He says, pushing y/n aside and the girl looked between him and the ymbryne, Alma sending her a pleading look before the man moved into her view. Barron leaned down, taking a rough hold of the woman's jaw, the ymbryne keeping herself from flinching.

"You seem like you have something to say." He smiles, slamming her back against the wall before yanking down the cloth that was in her mouth.

"Let her go." The woman snaps, her glare holding as she stared him down.

"You seem to be forgetting I'm in charge. There's nothing you can do." Barron mentions, pointing to the rope around her ankles as Alma struggled to get her hands free. Y/n watched on nearby, scared and unsure what to do. She followed Barron here despite Emma trying to keep her in the home, y/n just wanted to get her ymbryne back.

"There is no need for her to be involved!"

"But it's much more fun that way." He flashes a smile, walking over to where the girl was. The ymbrynes worry pierced through her features for a second as she watched him near her, Alma struggling against the ropes.

"Come here." The man orders, y/n not budging as she returned her ymbrynes fearful gaze. She's never seen such a look on her headmistress and it frightened her even more. "Now!" He shouts, y/n regaining her thoughts and moving back to where the man was standing.

"Leave her put of this!" Alma shouts, Barron suddenly taking out a pocket knife, holding it under the ymbrynes neck. Miss Peregrine didn't say anything more, but her hard stare said enough.

"One more word and it will be her who goes to join Victor." He grins, Alma maintaining her stare but couldn't help the tears that began building in her eyes, but that's all the more she would allow to show.

Barron let go of the hold, pleased with her silence and walked back over to y/n.

"Say goodbye to your ymbryne. A disappointment, a failure." He spits out, Alma moving her gaze down to the floor for a moment before looking at the girl. Y/n didn't like her defeated gaze. It wasn't like her usual confident one, she didn't like it.

Barron slowly brought out the knife once more, the headmistress holding her gaze, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of her pain and not wanting to further upset y/n than she already was or would be.

"Nice to see you again, Miss Peregrine." He smiles, bringing down the knife and Alma flinched her eyes shut.

But she didn't feel anything.

Slowly opening her eyes, she first seen Barron, the man a bit displeased as he walked off nonchalant, seeming a bit satisfied for the moment. The ymbryne looked down confused, her eyes widening when she seen y/n fall against her.

"Y/n?" The ravenette whispers, her voice shaky as her blue eyes searched over the girl, but she didn't get a response. "Y/n." She repeats, struggling to undo the ropes on her wrists. "No no, y/n, get up please." She whispers, her tears finally falling, leaving streaks through the dirt and dried blood on her cheeks.

"Y/n, please." She begged, a quiet sob building in the back of her throat as she looked over her lifeless ward, the girls eyes not opening.

"Well that takes care of one."

Miss Peregrine turned her head sharply over to where the man was, her glare sharp and fiery as the tears ran down her cheeks.

"You bastard!" She shouts, a small cry leaving her when the man raised his hand, the sharp pain in her cheeks flooding her eyes.

Alma quickly sat up in bed, her heart racing and a shaky breath leaving her as she tried to process where she was. She was in her bedroom. She recognized the curtains by the window and the vanity by the corner of her room.

The woman immediately got out of bed, not caring she was just in her nightgown and made her way down the hallway, hesitating when she passed by y/n's door. It was just a dream, right? What if she was wrong? What if it did happen?

She quietly stepped forward to the girls door, being mindful when she opened it to stay silent, relief filling her when she seen the sleeping girl in bed. Miss Peregrine waited a moment before quietly stepping into the bedroom, carefully making her way to y/n's bed and kneeled down in front of the ward. The ymbryne looked over her, thankful to see she wasn't hurt and it was all just a nightmare.

Alma waited a few seconds before forcing herself to pull away, letting out a quiet sigh as she walked back to the door.

"Miss P?"

The older woman looked back over at the girl, noticing she must have woken up, Alma feeling a bit guilty but happy to see she was alright.

"I'm sorry, dear, did I wake you?" She replies softly, walking over to her bedside when she seen the girl sit up.

"No, I was just having a weird dream." She says with a small yawn, the headmistress taking a seat on the edge of her bed.

"Do you need anything?"

"No." Y/n replies, looking up at her and seeing the woman was still in her nightgown signaling it was still late. "Why are you awake?"

"I couldn't sleep." She replies with a small smile. "You're not the only one having strange dreams."

"Really? Did you have one about the ghost in the attic?"

"The ghost in the attic?" Alma repeats, letting out a small chuckle.

"Enoch told me there was one in the attic that he spends time with." Y/n explains and Miss Peregrine hummed.

"Really now?" She smiles and gently tucked the girls hair back. "Well, I'm sure if he's friends with him, he shouldn't bother you."

"What was your dream about?"

Alma only let her smile falter for a second before managing a soft look.

"Don't worry about me, it was just a strange one." She says, letting a white lie slip. "Now try and get some rest for tomorrow."

"Okay." Miss Peregrine gave her a gentle kiss on her forehead, going to stand up when y/n wrapped her arms around her waist. Alma was a bit surprised but hugged her back, relief filling her when she felt the soft patter of the girls heart beat. She was so incredibly worried, wishing she could do everything possible to keep her wards safe and sound.

"Get some rest, dear." She says quietly, hugging her tighter for just a moment before letting go.

"Goodnight, Miss P." Y/n says, getting back under the covers.

"Goodnight, y/n." Alma smiled, quietly shutting the door.
