CHAPTER 2
The months that followed were a blur of lonely nights and growing resentment. Talia tried to communicate her feelings, but Ethan always seemed too busy or too tired to listen. She felt like a ghost in her own home, her pain unseen and her love unreciprocated.
One day, Talia reached her breaking point. She packed a suitcase and took their daughter Ellie with her. She left a note on the kitchen table:
“Ethan, I love you more than words can express, but I can’t keep living like this. I feel so alone, and I need to find myself again. I’m going to stay with my parents for a while with our daughter. I hope you understand. Talia.”
The day Talia left, Ethan didn’t even notice the note. When he called out for her while working in his home office, that’s when he realized Talia and Ellie were gone. He called her phone, but there was no response. Frantically, he searched the house and finally saw the note. As he read it, the pang of guilt struck him. He was too wrapped up in his work to truly comprehend the depth of Talia’s pain. He told himself she just needed some time and that she would come back once things settled down at work.
