The morning briefing in the DCP's cabin begins in the presence of the entire SIT that dealt with the slasher case, with the boss seated in his comfy leather chair with his hands poised on the table in front of him and the rest of the officers standing across the table. After listening to the accounts of all the officers and going through the report handed to him, the DCP considers Thiya's recording of the exchange of words between Seyon and Aran as the final circumstantial evidence in the slasher case. In the coming week, Thiya and the audio processing lab of the CID will be collectively responsible for processing and filing the evidence. The case is officially closed with a condition of reopening upon need. The SIT officers, including her, will immediately begin working on the symposium preparations.
"Sir..." Seyon clears his throat before the discussion can be called a wrap. It's a fine morning, overlapping the chaos of the day, bright and sunny outside. Yet the lingering darkness somehow lurks in his heart because they just discussed Aran's death. "About Aran..."
The DCP presses his lips and lets out a sigh. Thiya, Soham, Sarthak, Ulla, Ramya away his response with bated breath. Everyone understands the meaning behind Seyon's question. Will it be made public that Aran is the slasher? Could the authorities hold him accountable for the deaths of six elite film celebrities over five years? How do they justify if the number is just limited to that?
The DCP meets everyone's curious eyes and shakes his head. "Unfortunately, Aran's truth can't be made public as of now." A pause. He goes on, "We handed the kid's body to Arindam. Arindam pulled a few strings not to defame Aran, so... There's little we can do. There won't be a press release about this case. I know the media tries to sensationalise things, but hopefully this case will be forgotten soon."
Seyon and the rest can't hide their displeasure. Everyone either frowns or clicks their tongues. All that effort... won't be made public? The media might continue to find dirt to throw at the CID for their lackadaisical attitude towards catching the slasher at this rate. Whenever they are scarce of content, they might dig up the case details, refresh the message in front of the public eye.
"Sir." In the silence in which none express their dissatisfaction. Seyon presses forward to address another glaring issue, something that many of them, even Thiya, have forgotten.
