Kennedy High School
Harlem.

The school buzzed with excitement as everyone prepared for the big basketball game that night. Heaven and Ahvi strolled through the hallways, their bond growing stronger with every passing day. Their constant chatter and laughter were infectious, and students were beginning to notice just how close the two had become.

“Aven, at this rate, people are going to think we’re sisters,” Ahvi said, nudging her playfully.

“They wouldn’t be wrong. Sisters from another mister,” Heaven replied with a grin.

As they reached the lockers, Kenya appeared, her cheerleading uniform glittering under the fluorescent lights. She held up her pom-poms dramatically. “Tonight’s the night, you two. Front and center, or I’m disowning you as my girlfriend, rara.”

Ahvi laughed. “Don’t worry, we’re going to be louder than the actual crowd.”

“Not just that,” Heaven added, smirking. “We’re dressing up like cheerleaders, too, just for you.”

Yaya’s face lit up. “You two are crazy, but I love you for it!”

Later that evening, back at Yaya’s house, Heaven and Ahvi proved they were serious. The trio got ready together, with Heaven and Ahvi coordinating outfits to match Yaya’s cheer uniform.

“This feels ridiculous, but I kind of love it,” Ahvi said, adjusting her skirt.

“Ridiculous is our brand,” Heaven replied, giving her a twirl.

By the time they reached the school gym, the energy was palpable. Students filled the bleachers, and the cheerleaders lined up, preparing to lead the crowd. Heaven and Ahvi found their seats next to Notti, Ddot, and Dd, who had already claimed prime spots.

“Y’all look like knockoff cheerleaders,” Notti teased, pointing at their outfits.

“That’s the point,” Heaven retorted. “We’re here to hype Yaya up, and we’re doing it in style.”

“Knockoff or not, it’s cute,” Dd added with a smirk, giving Heaven a subtle nod.

As the game started, Kenya led the squad in a routine that had everyone on their feet. Heaven, Ahvi, and the boys screamed so loudly that the players on the court glanced over, laughing at their over-the-top energy.

Midway through the game, Heaven’s phone buzzed. She pulled it out to see Michaela calling.

“Perfect timing,” she muttered, answering and putting the call on speaker. “Michaela, welcome to game night madness!”

“Are you seriously at the game right now?” Michaela asked, her voice echoing over the noise.

“Yup, front row. Say hi to everyone!” Heaven said, angling her phone toward the court.

“Hey, Mich , Kayla , Michaela” Ahvi, Notti, Ddot, and Dd shouted in unison giving her diffent kinds of nicknames.

“Hi, guys!” Michaela replied, laughing. “What’s happening?”

“Yaya’s absolutely killing it on the court,” Heaven explained, turning the camera to her cousin mid-dance routine.

“Of course she is,” Michaela said. “And you two? What are you even wearing?”

“We’re cheerleaders for the night,” Heaven replied, striking a pose.

Michaela laughed. “You’re insane, but I love it. Keep me updated on all the drama.”

As the game wrapped up with a victory for the school team, the group decided to celebrate at a nearby restaurant. Michaela stayed on the call, insisting on being part of the post-game festivities even from afar.

At the restaurant, the table quickly filled with pizzas, burgers, and fries. Heaven scanned the menu and grinned. “Cherry Fanta for me.”

“Same here,” Dd said. “I’m not letting you have all the fun.”

“Make that three,” Ddot added matching the energy. “Cherry Fanta supremacy.” Dd shouted.

Michaela’s voice came through the phone. “Twinning with Ddot  now? Should Dd be worried?”

“Obviously,” Heaven joked, clinking her glass against Ddot’s and DD’s when the drinks arrived.

The meal was filled with laughter and teasing. At one point, Notti managed to knock over a plate of fries, earning a collective groan from the group.

“You’re officially banned from handling food,” Ahvi said, shaking her head.

“I’m still better than Ddot with that popcorn incident earlier,” Notti shot back.

By the time they returned to kenya and Heaven’s house, everyone was stuffed and buzzing from the night’s energy. Music blasted from a speaker as they opened the leftovers and continued the celebration. Heaven danced around the living room, holding her Cherry Fanta like a trophy.

Dixon walked in, raising an eyebrow at the chaos. “Do you guys ever calm down?”

“Not in this lifetime,” Heaven replied, twirling dramatically.

Dixon smirked. “Well, I’ve got news. There’s a block party this weekend.”

The room erupted in cheers, with Michaela’s voice joining in over the phone. She enjoyed every bit of the moment she spent through the phone, she was excited about finally travelling to physically meet everyone.

“But I can’t go,” Dixon added, silencing everyone.

“Why not?” Yaya asked, frowning.

“I’m not doing well in one of my classes,” Dixon explained. “The principal assigned me a tutor to help me catch up.”

“That’s rough,” Notti said, leaning back against the couch.

“Yeah, but I’ve got to fix this,” Dixon replied.
