Heaven woke up the next morning to the soft rays of sunlight streaming through her window. Her head was still spinning from the events of the previous night, the lingering warmth of Nico's kiss etched into her memory like a vivid dream. She hadn't expected the night to unfold the way it did—she hadn't expected any of it, really. The party, the dancing, the kiss... It all felt like something out of a movie, something she had always seen from a distance but never thought would happen to her.
As she sat up in bed, Heaven's thoughts drifted to Nico. They had crossed an unspoken line, and now she wasn't sure what that meant for them. Was it just a one-time thing? A momentary spark that would fizzle out, leaving them both awkward and unsure? Or was it something more? The thought of being with Nico, really with him, made her heart race, but at the same time, a wave of uncertainty washed over her. What if this changed everything?
Her phone buzzed on her nightstand, pulling her out of her thoughts. She glanced at it, her breath catching when she saw the name on the screen. It was Nico.
Nico: Morning :)
She smiled as she unlocked her phone and quickly typed back.
Heaven: Good morning! I'm still trying to process everything.
It only took a few seconds for him to reply.
Nico: Yeah, me too. Last night was... amazing.
Heaven's heart fluttered. Amazing. She had to admit, she felt the same way. The kiss, the way they had connected, felt natural in a way she hadn't expected. It was like they had been building toward that moment for weeks, even if they hadn't fully realized it until now.
Heaven: I didn't expect things to move so fast.
Nico: Me neither. But it felt right, didn't it?
Heaven bit her lip, trying to keep her thoughts from spiraling. She wanted to say yes, to tell him that it did feel right. But she didn't want to jump ahead of herself.
Heaven: It did. I just... I don't know what this means for us now.
There was a pause before Nico responded. She could almost feel his hesitation, the same uncertainty she was feeling.
Nico: I know. It's a lot to process. But I like you, Heaven. A lot. And I don't want to make things weird between us.
His words sent a wave of relief through her chest. He liked her. He wanted to figure this out, just like she did. It was nice to know that they were on the same page.
Heaven: I like you too, Nico. I just don't want to mess things up.
Nico: I don't think we can mess it up. We'll figure it out together, okay?
Heaven smiled at his text, feeling a little lighter. Maybe she didn't have to have all the answers right now. Maybe they didn't need to rush. She didn't want to force anything, but she also didn't want to walk away from this connection they had.
Heaven: Okay. Together.
Nico: I'm glad. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Heaven felt a flutter in her chest. This felt real. Not just a fleeting crush, but something that had the potential to be something more. She couldn't help but feel hopeful, even as she knew there were still questions left unanswered.
They exchanged a few more texts, but as Heaven set her phone down, she couldn't shake the feeling of excitement mixed with a touch of anxiety. She had never been in a situation like this before. The last thing she wanted was to mess it up. But there was a part of her, deep down, that knew they could figure it out together.
Later that day, Heaven met up with Tasha at their usual spot in the cafeteria. As soon as she sat down, Tasha's eyes were all over her.
"What happened last night?" she asked, her voice dripping with curiosity. "You disappeared with Nico, and then you didn't come back for the rest of the night. What's going on between you two?"
Heaven hesitated, her heart racing at the thought of recounting everything. She wasn't ready to share all the details yet. But she could tell Tasha already knew something was up.
"We talked," Heaven said slowly, looking down at her lunch. "We danced, and then... well, we kissed."
Tasha's eyes widened. "You kissed?!" she exclaimed, causing a few heads to turn.
Heaven blushed and lowered her voice. "Shh, not so loud. Yes, we kissed. But I'm still trying to figure out what it all means. He's amazing, Tasha, but I don't want to jump into anything without thinking it through."
Tasha leaned forward, her expression serious but supportive. "I get it. You don't want to rush things. But Heaven, if he makes you feel that way... then go for it. You deserve someone who treats you right, who makes you feel special. And from what I've seen, Nico is exactly that."
Heaven smiled softly. "I think so too. But I still don't know where we stand. He said he likes me, but what does that really mean? I don't want to get ahead of myself."
Tasha nodded, her eyes thoughtful. "I understand. Just don't be afraid to take things slow. If he's serious about you, he'll wait for you to be ready. And if he's not, then he's not the guy for you, simple as that."
Heaven thought about Tasha's words. She was right—there was no need to rush, no need to force anything. If this was meant to be, it would fall into place. She had to trust herself, trust her feelings, and trust Nico.
"I'm not afraid of moving forward," Heaven said softly, more to herself than to Tasha. "I just want to make sure we're both on the same page. That's the most important thing."
Tasha gave her an encouraging smile. "You'll figure it out. Just keep being honest with each other."
As the lunch bell rang, signaling the end of their break, Heaven gathered her things, her mind still buzzing with the thoughts of last night. She didn't have all the answers yet, but she was starting to feel like maybe, just maybe, she didn't need them. She had Nico, and that was enough for now.
When she saw him in the hallway later that day, their eyes met across the crowd. Nico gave her a small, knowing smile, and Heaven felt her heart flutter. Whatever this was, whatever it was becoming, she knew one thing for sure: she was ready to see where it would take them.
