Emily's pov
I wake up to the soft rustling of bed sheets and the faint whispers coming from the other side of the door. I blink sleep away from my eyes and turn seeing Scarlett watching me with a sleepy smile. "Happy birthday" Scarlett murmurs, leaning over and pressing a soft kiss on my lips. "mmm thank you" I whisper being peppered with kisses. The door bursts open and Rose runs in "Happy birthday!" she squeals clambering onto the bed between us "We made you breakfast! But mommy didn't let me carry the tray because last time I spilled the juice" Scarlett chuckles and helps me sit up by moving the pillows "That's true. But don't worry, the birthday girl will still get breakfast in bed" I smile and move Rose into the gap between us.
Scarlett brings up a tray of pancakes, fresh juice, and a steaming cup of coffee "You guys didn't have to do this" I say as she puts the tray on my lap "Well, too bad, we did" Scarlett says "you deserve to be spoiled today" I smile widely and look down at the tray "I made the pancakes!" Rose says full of pride "really? Their perfect, I love the heart shapes" I put my arm around her and kiss her forehead "do you want to help me eat them?' rose nods. Scarlett and I both laugh "thought so" Rose beams and waits for me to cut a bit off for her.
After I eat breakfast, Scarlett and Rose pull me downstairs by my hands not letting me get changed first. "Come on Emmy! Your so slow" Rose whines dramatically "okay okay, I'm coming. Give me a second". As we get to the bottom of the stairs, Scarlett covers my eyes with her hands taking me by surprise "what are you doing?' I question holding her arms so I know where to walk "keeping you from peeking" I feel Rose hold my sleeve leading me in the direction "mommy?" "Yep now baby". Scarlett removes her hands from my fave "surprise" I look around the lounge completely star struck. Pink bandanas and a balloon arch aswell as a table with cake and snacks "woah..you guys went full out huh" "that's not the best part" Scarlett whispers and then all of a sudden people jump out from behind the sofas "happy birthday!" I stumble back jumped but then smile. Moms the first one out from behind the sofas and hugs me tightly "happy birthday honey" she says giving me a soft kiss "thank you" I pull away and smile. Eleanor appears next to her "happy birthday Em" "happy birthday Elle" we give each other a hug and then Ross tugs on my sleeve "Emily you cake" I follow her over to the table with Elle and we both peer in the case "wow" Eleanor chuckles "I helped make the cake and mommy decorated" I bend down and give Rose a hug "thank you. I bet it's going to taste really nice" I stand up and walk back over to Scarlett "thank you" she pouts "you deserve it" I peck her lips "eww ok ok" Lizzie pushes us apart "I'm starving and your both putting me off eating" I stick my tongue out "everyone go eat" Scarlett calls and my family pile around the table. Scarlett and I stand back as my family pile their plat up with breakfast goodies. Mom helps Rose put things on her plate "that's sweet" Scarlett says and I hum in agreement "Hey Em" dad says "Happy birthday" he hugs me loosely "thank you".
The house is filled with laughter, the scent of home-cooked food and the warmth of family. I sit on the couch, a slice of cake in my hands watching Rose and Courtney attempt to teach Jake some ridiculous dance move. Scarlett sits beside me "how are you holding up birthday girl?" I lean my head on her shoulder "it's perfect. Thank you" she kisses my cheek "i'm surprised mom and dad are actually getting along" Scarlett smirks "it's not a disaster" I laugh "i never said it would be a disaster" "no but you were definitely thinking it" before I can protest, Eleanor walks over with a glass of wine in her hand "so do i get credit for keeping mom from brining out the embarrassing baby pictures?" "that was you? I owe you but she would have bought them of you too" Eleanor smirks "big time but I persuaded her not to bring mine first".
I watch mom and dad deep in conversation with Trent, something I would never expect to see. Ashley and Mary Kate are busy setting up some sort of game, while Lizzie is showing off old photos to Eleanor. It's not chaos. Rose stops dancing and face plants into the sofa beside Scarlett "can we do presents now?" Scarlett wraps her arm around her pulling her onto her lap "I think we can make that happen". Everyone gathers in the living room as I sit on the floor next to Eleanor, surrounded by brightly wrapped gifts. We open them one by one taking it in turns, some sentimental, some hilarious including Eleanor's gift of matching pyjama sets for me and Scarlett and some thoughtful. Scarlett hands me a small box wrapped in dark pink paper. I glance at her curiously before before unwrapping it. Inside is a delicate silver necklace with a small engraved charm of a heart. I swallow hard reading the inscription. No matter where you go, your home. Scarlett rubs my arm "let me put it on you" I smile softly and hand it to her "wow" mom says as Scarlett opens the clasp "that's beautiful" I look over at her and smile "sure is" Ashley grins. I look over at Scarlett seeing nothing but warmth and love in her eyes and without thinking I get onto my knees and press a soft kiss against her lips. Rose groans dramatically "eww stop kissing!" laughter erupts from around the room so i pull back "fine" I look back at Scarlett "I love it. Thank you" she grins "Happy birthday. Rosie get Em her other present". Rose finally finds what she's looking for and hurries back to us dropping a small black velvet box in my hands "here! Open it!" I hesitate, glancing between Rose and Scarlett before slowly lifting the lid. Inside is a silver key attached to a keyring of a house. For a moment, I just stare at it, my breath catches in my throat. "it's to my house" Scarlett says softly, i look up "your house?" she nods "i know you have your own place and I'm not asking you to move in. But...your already here all the time. Rose loves having you around. I love having you around" she exhales "i just thought...Maybe it's time" i glance at Rose who is practically bouncing on her toes "now you don't have to knock! You can come whenever you want" I let out a small laugh looking back at Scarlett "are you sure?" she meets my gaze "i've never been more sure about anything" I smile softly and pick up the key "okay" I whisper. Scarlett's face lights up and Rose throws herself on to my wrapping her arms around my neck "Best birthday ever!" she cheers. I let out a breath looking at Scarlett over Rose's shoulder "...wine time!" Mary Kate says clapping her fingers together making me laugh.
