A few minutes later

Dr. Sasha: up next is Amity blight um Amity blight.

Amity: That's me.

Dr. Sasha: Come right in. Amity walks into the room and sits down on the couch.

Dr. Sasha: What brings you here?

Amity: My girlfriend's mom suggested that my friends, her, and I need therapy, so I went along with it.

Dr. Sasha: Okay, why don't you tell me what's on your mind?

Amity: Well, my friend Willow and I have been best friends since we were three years old. But when I was four, she was having trouble learning magic, and my parents made me stop being friends with her. They said she was too weak to be my friend and forced me to befriend girls who bullied others. Amity takes a deep breath before continuing.

Amity: Willow and I grew apart until we were fourteen. I apologized for what I did, and we rebuilt our friendship. I hate the fact that I was mean to her.

Amity: Yeah.

Amity pauses for a moment, gathering her thoughts.

Amity: So, ever since I was born, my hair has been brown like my dad's. But my mom didn't like that—she wanted me and my older siblings to have green hair like hers. My older siblings, Edric and Emira, were born with green hair, so she didn't do anything to them. But for me, she made me dye my hair green. I kept it that way for a long time.

Amity: Then, before Luz and I started dating, when I was discovering that the feelings I had for her were actually a crush, I dyed my hair purple. It was because of my feelings for her—and because it matched my favorite magic, abominations.

Amity: Growing up, my parents, especially my mom, neglected me and my siblings. They only cared about their own goals. My mom even helped the Emperor because she thought it would make her rich. She knew he was planning to destroy and kill us all but didn't care.

Amity: Luckily, my dad realized what she was doing was wrong and helped us stop her. He even acknowledged his past mistakes and worked on being a better parent. After the war with Belos, he divorced my mom and married another man, Darius, who's also my friend Hunter's adoptive dad. So, Hunter became my stepbrother.

Amity lets out a deep breath.

 Amity: So, yeah, that's it.

Dr. Sasha: Wow, that's a lot. No wonder Camila booked an hour and 45 minutes for each of you. I'm not sure who has more trauma to unpack—you or Luz.

Amity: Oh, just wait until it's Hunter's turn. He had a panic attack and an identity crisis in the same two weeks.

Dr. Sasha: Oh boy, this is going to be interesting.

Amity gets up and heads for the door. She looks back with a small smile.

 Amity: Thanks for helping.

Dr. Sasha: No problem. Amity walks out and joins the rest of the group.

 Luz: How was it?

Amity: Good. It's like a weight has been lifted.

 Camila: That's great to hear.
