"Hey, where is Dad and Emily?" I asked Alex. She was on her phone while drinking a cup of coffee.
"They went to work," Alex said, sipping her mug. A thousand thoughts were racing through my mind right now. I was wondering why Dad was acting so weird. When he lived with us, he nevered offered us money, trips to California or Alaska, or dogs either.
Without even hesitating, I asked, "Why is Dad offering all of those expensive things so us?" Alex looked at me as in if she knew something. Then she looked down back at her phone and said,
"He's trying fix what he did, Allison," Alex looked at me and gave me that 'duh' look.
"Well, what did he do?"
"You don't know, do you?" Alex frowned, and I shooked my head. "You don't know why our parents divorced, huh?"
"N-no." I stuttered. Alex was about to give me the answer that would break my heart into millions of pieces.
"He cheated on Mom, Allison."
I stood there in awe. He had an affair with Mom. He went behind her back and cheated on her. A tear dripped down my cheek.
I couldn't stop asking questions, even though the more information I knew, it would only hurt me more. "W-with who?"
"Emily." Alex said, still not looking at me. I was just starting to be okay with Emily.
"Is Dad Emily's first serious boyfriend?"
"No, she was married before. She also has kids."
"SHE HAS KIDS?" I screamed. Tears flowing out of my eyes like a waterfall. "H-how do you know about all of this?"
"I found out on my own. I was your, age I think,"
"You didn't even think to tell me?!" My tears were unstoppable at this point. I couldn't take it. I went upstairs, and locked myself in my room.
I stared at the ceiling fan and thought. I thought about every feeling I was feeling.
I was angry.
Upset.
Furious.
Alone.
Sad.
I felt terrible for my mom.
Most of all I was disappointed.
Even though it was 10:30 in the morning, I still managed to cry myself to sleep.
~~**~~
I woke up to Shawn's voice. "Allison, are you okay? I was worried when you didn't come over at twelve." I rubbed the sleep of my eyes and looked at my clock 1:15. "Your eyes are all puffy and red, what happened?" Shawn sat down at the edge of my bed.
I couldn't get the words to come out of my mouth. All my lips would do was quiver. I bit my tip as the tears fell once more.
Shawn inched closer to me and wrapped his arms around me and cooed, "Shhh, Allison. It's going to be okay. Please tell me what's wrong." He rested his head on mine.
"Shawn, I found out." I sobbed.
"Found out what?"
"I found out why my parents divorced." I cried even harder. He looked at me with sympathy in his eyes.
"Allison, I-I don't know what to say, I'm so sorry. His strong arms wrapped around me tighter, pulling me closer to his chest.
"He cheated on her. He had sex with a different woman while he was married to someone else! Did he even think about his own three children? We moved from house to house, my mother had to give up everything once she settled, she let go of so much for him, and he goes and has freaking sex with someone else!" I gripped onto Shawn's maroon sweater.
"Allison, I can't even imagine how you feel. I want to fix this, I don't want you to go through this. I'm sorry." he said.
I looked at him, tears falling slowly as I blinked. I noticed that he was tearing up as well. "Shawn, why are you crying?"
"Because you're hurting. It's killing me to see that your once happy face, is covered with tears. I don't want you to be in pain, Allison. I want to take this pain away from you."
We laid in my bed, his arms around my waist. My face is still in his chest while he is playing with my hair.
He started to hum. He leaned closer to my ear and sings quietly.
'I'm going to pick up the pieces and build a Lego House.'

Shawn and I were watching one of my absolute favorite shows, Teen Wolf. My head was against his shoulder, while his arm was wrapped around my body, rubbing my arm delicately, leaving goose bumps everywhere he touched. As the opening credits finished, Alex walked down stairs and noticed what we were watching. "Oh, look at that. Tyler Posey is shirtless again. I think... I need.. to... watch this for a sec." She says walking towards the couch, not taking her eyes of the screen.
I looked at her weirdly and said, "How is Stiles not your favorite? He's so funny and adorable and that new long haircut is definitely working for him!" Shawn looked at me like I was crazy and chuckled.
Alex's phone beeped, so she picked it up and read the message aloud, "I'm coming home in about five minutes. I have dinner ready. Love you, Dad."
I sat there wide eyed. I wasn't ready to face him. Not right now. Not when he's been hiding away and lying to me for the past six years.
Shawn noticed the look on my face, and says, "How about we go watch that movie we were talking about,"
I smiled because I knew he was trying to distract me from my dad, and I really appreciated that. "Sure, let's go."
~~**~~
We watched Meet the Robertsons, and as the movie ended, a Walt Disney quote came on the screen.
"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we are curious... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."
Shawn looked at me smiled. The smile that can make anyone's day a thousand times better. "I've have always loved that quote," he said.
"I never heard of it," I replied.
"Allison, I know you're going through some tough shit, and I feel awful for you. No matter what happens, I'll always, and I mean always, help you keep moving forward. I'll do whatever it takes"
I felt my eyes water. "Oh, Allison. I didn't mean to make you cry. Ah, shit. I'm so sorry, Allison. Please don't cry." Shawn said with his hands on my shoulders.
"Shawn, I'm not crying because I'm sad, I'm crying because no ever said anything like to me."
"What do you mean? You didn't have friends that helped you through any of this?" He asked concerned.
"None them quite understanded me as well you do. They just kind of put my problems to the side and worried about more important things." I looked at the ground.
"Wait, you're joking, right?" I turned to Shawn and saw him getting flustered.
"Um, no. That's why I never talked about this. I didn't want to tell somebody everything, and next, have them not even care." I said. He stared at me tilting his head, and furrowing his brows. Then, a couple seconds later, sadness takes over his eyes, replacing the anger. It was quiet for a couple of minutes. Not the uncomfortable quiet; it was the quiet that you can just sit in forever. It was a relaxing quiet.
Shawn broke the silence whispering, "Allison, I hope you know I do care about your problems. I'm never going to just toss them to the side, I care about you. "
I gave him a small, sincere smile. "You really mean that?"
"Of course, I do, Allison"
My phone rang, it was Alex. "Hello?"
"Dad wants you home." she said.
"What? Why?"
"Well, considering that you live here, maybe he wants you to be at his house for bed, I don't know." Her voice screamed sarcasm
"I don't know if I want to go home, though."
"Where are you going to go, then?" Alex asked.
"Umm, I'll call Arden." I answered.
"Are you going to tell him that you know?"
"Can you?" I asked. I wasn't ready to have a conversation on how my father shamelessly had sex with another woman.
"I think it's your place to tell him, you know." Alex ended the call, and I just sat there.
"What's wrong?" asked Shawn.
"My sister thinks I should tell my dad that I know, but I'm scared. I don't know what is going to happen from here..." A single tear fell from my eye. Shawn scooted closer and placed me in his lap.
"Don't worry, Allison Kate. I'll be there to help you get through this, I promise."
~~**~~
Shawn eventually dropped me off at Arden's, and I texted my dad, saying: "I won't be coming home for a couple of days. I found out some things. I am very, very disappointed."
"Hey, Arden, thanks so much for letting me stay for a couple weeks. It mean so so much!" It was true, I was appreciative that she let me stay.
"No problem! Not that I don't want you here, but why do you need to stay here for so long?"
"Oh, it's n-not a big deal." I stuttered.
"Lies. You can tell me." Arden wholeheartedly said. I didn't know if I should tell her. "Allison, you can trust me, I won't tell anyone."
I decided I was going to give her a vague explanation. "I'm not the happiest with my dad, and I needed to get away."
"Oh, I see." I just simply nodded at her.
