Caroline

"Faster,"

I laughed as my dad sped up, the wind blowing my hair everywhere as he drove the boat. I looked over at my mom, who shook her head, but kept a smile on her face.

"Devon, that's enough," she chuckled.

"Oh come on, I'm not going that fast," he scoffed.

"Mhm," she hummed.

"How about salmon for dinner?" He looked at me.

"That sounds good,"

"Baked potatoes, broccoli, and rolls," he listed off.

"So you're grilling?" Mom raised her eyebrows.

"Yeah, why not?"

"No, that's fine, I'm in," mom agreed.

"Let's head back," dad said. He turned the boat around and went back home. When we arrived at the dock, I tied the boat up, then we were heading inside. As dad grilled, I helped mom make the rest of the food.

"Good start to the summer?" Mom asked.

"The best," I smiled. "Just one more month of school, then we can do this all summer,"

"I know, it'll be great," she grinned.

"Will Sammy and Peyton come here as well?" I asked. The two were my step brothers. Mom got married to Devon ten years ago. He had two boys who were a year older than me, but they were my best friends. However, they stayed with their mom for the majority of the time. Every summer they stayed with us for three months, and it was the best time.

"They will," she smiled. "Are you excited?"

"Super excited," I grinned.

"You three are the best of friends," she chuckled.

"I know,"

Once dinner was ready, we all sat on the back patio and ate. Mom and dad were mostly talking about the plans for summer. They had a lot going on while we were here, but they were still excited. While we spent time at the lake house, they were still working. Most of their stuff could be done online, but sometimes they did have to drive to work for the day and come back

"Bringing any of your friends to the place, Car?" Dad asked.

"Yeah, I was hoping Hayley could come,"

"Well that'll be fun," he grinned.

"I'll see what her mom says, but it shouldn't be a problem," mom said and I smiled.

"Her mom seemed ok with it," I said.

"Good, the more the merrier," dad chirped.

"It's going to be the best summer ever," I told them.
