I left the room dragging the fire boy behind me. Watched the girl with green eyes shut the door, and saw one last glimpse of Ember. She was crying and she looked more vulnerable than I have ever seen her.
The girl closed the door much to the boy’s dismay. He stared at the door willing it to open. To let him in, but it stayed closed. He collapsed on the floor; staring at me waiting for an explanation.
I couldn’t give him one. I didn’t even know myself why I did it.
Why I kissed Ember. She just seemed so lost, and so open.
She was rambling in the way that she normally did, and turning red as her hair. It was cute to see that again, and know it was because of me. I think I did it because I knew I would never get another chance like that.
Not with this thing inside of me. The demon wanted me to grab her and run, but I was able to resist. No matter how hard it fights I will never hurt her.
I know that I cannot keep that promise forever. Sooner or later the thing will take over. “Yes my weak minded host. Soon I will takeover, and then you will hurt the girl. Unless you do as I say”
Get out of my head. I don’t want you here. Go away!
I could see the boy staring at me and realised I was screaming out loud. Damnit he already thinks I’m a threat! I can’t have him thinking that I’m crazy to.
“What you looking at hothead!” That wasn’t helping; he cowered against the door, and I felt a little remorse.
“You are above him. He is supposed to cower. He is supposed to bow to you! No matter soon you will be no more than a body. I will take over your mind, and I will make everyone bow to you. Including the girl!”
“Never!” I will not hurt her, “Get out of my head! Now!” the boy was still staring at me. Waiting for me to attack.
I could sense that he was stronger than he looks. Within that spindly frame is an inferno raging. He stared at me through warm, brown eyes. The same eyes that I used to have.
“I’m sorry. What is your name?” He was still staring at me with distrust in his eyes, but he did answer my question.
“My name is Gerard, and you are?” he seemed like he actually wanted to know.
“Cliff, I’m Cliff. Nice to meet you Gerard” he seemed surprised at the thought that I could form a coherent sentence. “Um.. Quick question. Do you have a shirt anywhere that I could use? It’s pretty cold out here in the treetops with just this jacket” He just nodded and got up. Leading me down towards the main center. Making a right then a left and going down. Till we reached a hut decorated with many plants. A lot of them dying. “Wow, why all the plants? Not really going to last the way you’re taking care of them”
He just shrugged and said “They make me feel like I’m closer to Devon. She can never resist the call of a sick plant. It’s not like I try to kill them, but I’m a fire bender. So plants and I don’t really mix” While listening to him I was just poking around at the plants. It seemed that they were in pain. I could feel it. Walking over to a little flower pot. I could see that they weren’t really getting any water, were all brown instead of the nourishing green, and they were in bad shape altogether.
