Chapter 20: Feel the Love
Ding Dong!
Sheva bolted up from the couch and opened the door and looked disappointed. It was just Clyde and Nia. She sighed and moved aside to let them in then shut the door behind them. She went back to the couch and took a seat once again.
Clyde went upstairs to greet Nadia and left Nia with Sheva. Nia and Sheva stared at each other then Nia went to the corner of the living room where her toys were located and grabbed two dolls. She ran over to Sheva and handed her a doll and said "Play."
"Nia, not right now. Someone important is coming over but I will play with you later. I promise." Once she said that she regretted it. Nia's eyes started to water and her bottom lip poked out.
"Don't make me get mom." Sheva warned. Nia continued to whine until she was fully crying.
"Mom!" Sheva yelled as she came to the bottom of the stairs. Just then the doorbell rang once again.
"Nia please be quiet, I will play with you after Chris leaves. I promise!" Sheva begged her little sister. Nia just continued to cry. Sheva let out an irritated groan and went to answer the door.
She opened the door to see Chris standing there with a smile on his face, but it quickly faded when he saw Nia throwing a fit.
"What's wrong with her?" Chris asked as Sheva stepped aside to let him in.
"Oh, she's just grumpy." Sheva said simply as she closed the door. She walked over to Nia and picked her up even though Nia protested.
"I'll go put her down for a nap. Be right back, you can just take a seat on the couch." She told him as she ran upstairs and brought Nia to her room. She gently placed her in her crib and tucked her in, besides her nap was long overdue. Sheva remembered her mom would always sing her a lullaby when she was about to go to sleep, so she thought she could try it on Nia. She sung the first lullaby that came to her head.
"Hush, little baby, don't say a word. Momma's gonna buy you a mockingbird. And if that mockingbird won't sing, Momma's gonna buy you a diamond ring..." Sheva began to sing and Nia began to calm down. Sheva continued, "And if that diamond ring turns brass, Momma's gonna buy you a looking glass..."
Sheva sung about 2 more verses of the song and Nia was asleep. Sheva leaned over her crib and gave her a quick kiss on her forehead. Sheva turned around and faced the door and gasped in shock when she saw her mother, Clyde and Chris all standing there with big grins on their faces.
"How long have you been there?" Sheva asked, as she put her hand over her heart, catching her breath.
"The whole time..." Nadia told her.
"Mom! You know I don't like singing in front of people..." Sheva told her as she covered her face in embarrassment.
"I don't know why. You are a great singer, sweetie!" Nadia told Sheva as pulled her into a hug.
"You have to tell me that. You're my mom." Sheva told her as they all walked out of Nia's room and downstairs back into the living room.
"Well I agree with your mom. And I'm your boyfriend so I don't have to tell you that." Chris told her. She just laughed and gave him a small shove.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Boyfriend?! When did this happen?" Clyde asked as he stepped in between them.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you I have a boyfriend. Here he is! We kissed in the hospital." Sheva told him as she pulled Chris to her side. Clyde just raised his eyebrow at the two of them and was about to say something but Nadia cut him off.
