chapter 49 - forget you?

'Ever heard of the saying you're like cold coffee? Usually when coffee grows cold its because somebody's forgotton about it. Luke will forget about you. Your friends will. But we won't.'

I woke up, startled to say the least. My head was pounding with pain, and I could feel the sweat and heat radiating off of my body. I had dreamt about the party I went to with Dylan. I didn't want to think about that, at all.

My eyes adjusted to the darkness of the night and I realised that I was previously sleeping against the trunk of a tree. I could make out Lukes limp sleeping body in the darkness, his arm was draped around my waist.

I didn't want to wake him, so I just sat against the tree, a smile creeping up on my face as I remembered that I had told Luke I was inlove with him. I kissed him. He didn't kiss me.

The positive thought didn't last long since the pain of my headache was becoming excruciating. I got up slowly, knowing that I had to find the others since there were tons of bottles of waters in Blazes bag. Luke stirred abit in his sleep when I had carefully removed his hand from my waist, but he didn't wake. I was grateful for that; he didn't need to worry.

I made my way through the trees, getting caught in branches a few times due to the lack of brightness. But I managed to find the main campsite without getting injured. I thought everybody would be asleep, but Selena was awake, looking out into the sky full of stars.

I accidently tripped, which caused the rustle of leaves and branches to make Selena jump; and acknowledge my presence. She put her hand over her chest, breathing out a sigh of relief. "Oh my God, I thought- you- you scared me," Selena laughed slightly and I joined in with her. I grabbed Blazes bag which lay across her sleeping body, and sat on the log next to Selena.

Everybody looked so peaceful sleeping. James had spread out across the log, his mouth partly open. Cats head was placed on top of Beaus stomach, the palms of her hands were placed beneath her ear. Beau had also outstretched himself across the ground. Violet was dribbling slightly, which made me laugh, and I couldn't see Daniel very well since he had faced the other way, on his side. Blaze slept next to Violet, and light snores were escaping her mouth. Jai was next to Selena, and he was hugging the log.

"They look well cute, huh?" Selena laughed, and I nodded my head in agreement. "Why aren't you asleep?" I asked Selena, generally curious.

"Well- I don't really sleep much. It's like I'm nocturnal or something," she joked. I don't think she understood the meaning of nocturnal, but I didn't point this out. "Plus; I'm not tired. How about you?" She added, and I sighed.

"Nightmare," I mumbled and her eyebrows furrowed, and sympathy was written across her face. "Want to talk about it?" She whispered and I shrugged,  making myself confortable as I leaned my head against the log, acting as if it was a pillow. Selena did the same, and we were both staring into the sky which was illuminated by the hundreds of stars.

"I wonder how many there are," Selena had said. I figured she was talking about the stars. "I wish I was more into astronomy at times like this," she sighed deeply and I agreed, silently.

"You won't forget about me, will you Selena?" I managed to get out, my voice hoarse due to how tired and strained I was. I was thinking too much about the party again and the words he had said to me.

Selena sat up, suddenly and stared at me as if I was insane. "Forget you?" She asked, in disbelief. However, I think it was a rhetorical question.

"Yeah, well. I'm like cold coffee, people forget about me after a while and-" I tried to explain but I got cut off. "Woah, slow down, Scarlett. I dont even know what you're talking about. First? What kind of person relates you to cold coffee? And second of all, I will not forget about you. Not even when we're ninety four years old and my ears are unable to hear your angelic voice anymore and my eyes have slowly lost their sight and my memories are fading away." Selena had exaggerated, but she also made me laugh.

"You're my best friend, Scarlett. Nobody will forget about you. You're something special," she concluded, and my smile widened. "I love you, I hope you know that," I poked her side and she slid off the log, nearly crushing Jai in the process.

"Well, I love you to. God, next thing you know we'll be going on our first date," Selena had joked, whilst brushing off the dirt on her knees. "Sorry, and eh. You're not my type," I shrugged, and she pushed my shoulder.  "Fuck off, I'm everybody's type." She boasted and my eyebrows furrowed.

"Yeah? I'm more into boys, sorry about that," I winked and she rolled her eyes. "Your obviously missing out." She said. We talked for a while, whilst I drank my water. We talked about everything and everyone.

But, the thought of Dylan- and Lukes involvement in his group had also kept me awake, until 3:27am, long after Selena had fell asleep. I had made my way back to Luke, and slid into his arms and automatically, his grip on my waist had tightened, and I could just about make out the small, content smile on his face. He was happy. That was enough to put me back to sleep that night.
