-Chapter 12-
As Weaver and I sat in the little cave that gave us sanctuary and protection, I heard a cannon fire.
We haven't heard cannon fire since the 3 days I've been in the cave.
That could've been Reef.
I suddenly became worried and anxious, as well as frantic.
" Weaver!! Weaver!" I yelled.
"What?" He asks, groggy from the nap he was having.
" Reef! That cannon! He could have died!" I started to feel warmth crawling into my cheeks.
Weaver knows how much I care about Reef. He got up, picked up his sword and we walked out of the cave to see if the face in the sky would be the face of Reef. It was night after all.
The Capitol anthem began to play and the face appeared. It was not Reef.
I felt a stream of relief wash the anxiousness away.
But the face was a face I did recognize.
It was the brutal boy from District 2.
How could he have died?
He was probably the strongest one in these games.
He was the one who I would bet on if I was a Capitol citizen.
"It's fine, your boyfriend didn't die." He says smirking and elbowing me in the arm.
" Ugh! Hate you!" I said with a smile. And I elbowed him in the side.
But then I heard footsteps.
Who?
Who could be the person approaching?
7.
District 7.
The girl who was accepted into the careers alliance, coming to kill us.
She appeared in the clearing that the tree cave was in.
We couldn't go back into our hiding spot, she had already seen us.
She smiled with a vicious smile, revealing her bloody teeth.
Why were they bloody?
Did she chomp out a tributes throat?
Insane? This girl is crazy.
She sprinted towards me at full speed baring her teeth.
I drive my trident at her gut and thrust it at her.
But she perries my jab and whips out a blade to slit my throat.
She yells and I dodge, falling to the ground to kick her legs out from under her. She doesn't notice and I swipe her off her feet. Then Weaver steps out of his defensive position, and finishes her off, stabbing her chest, she convulses, suffering and dying. But when she convulsed she threw her knife into his wrist.
He jumps back as she takes her final dying breath, grabbing his wrist.
The cut isn't deep, but it's bleeding fast.
I try and staunch the wound, and I take off my jacket to tie it around his arm.
BOOM!
The cannon fires, and District 7 is dead.
One more down.
But Weaver is bleeding out.
"Hey, Finnick, if you could send some medicine down. Thanks!"
And medicine comes. I think he knows how much I need Weaver to survive.
"Thank you!" I whisper up to the sky.
And I coax him into taking it.
His bleeding stops almost immediately.
The beauty of the Capitol.
And we crawl back into our little cave shelter.
And we drift off into a guarded sleep.
