"Ma'am we need to take you down to the station to answer a few questions about your husband." She let go of me and left with the two officers, looking back at me with eyes I couldn't read, almost as though she was telling me sorry with her glances... Her husband?

Sarah's P.O.V
"We have to ask you a few things about Lucas." I nervously nodded my head and he proceeded. "I understand you two have a past of an abusive relationship, am I correct?" I nodded once more and added, "It's not in the past... he's still abusive." I swallowed. "Speak up." he softly said. "He's still abusive." I said a bit louder than before. "Are the marks on you from him." I looked down at my lap and tears began to fall from my eyes. I wiped them with my sleeve before replying. "Yes." I almost choked.  "When was the last time you seen him?" "I'm not exactly sure, a couple days ago." "Did he physically hurt you at that time?" "Yes, all the marks you are looking at right now." "I understand since the last time I spoke with you concerning your relationship, you said you wanted to file for a divorce, but nothing has been filed." "There's no way to get a divorce from someone who beats you to a pulp just for asking for a piece of bread." I swallowed as though Lucas could hear me talking about him right now. "I understand all of the things he put you through, I tried to help you the best  could last time, but his father is one of the state's best lawyers and won't tolerate it and our words against his don't mean a thing." he paused before reaching against the interrogation table. I gave him my hands, which he silently asked for and he held them in his, rubbing his thumbs across my knuckles. "I know you left him, I know you're staying with that one fellow, but I promised you that I'd help you...I got you a court date Monday, you're getting the divorce." With those words my hands flew from his to cover my mouth, I couldn't explain the happiness. I jumped up from my seat and walked around the table to hug him. He hugged me back and I felt his smile against my neck. "I can't thank you enough." I cried with joy. "You don't have to thank me, I've been on this investigation long enough to know you deserve my help." he let go, looked into my eyes, wiped my tears and said "Now I don't wanna see anymore tears from those eyes." I nodded as I found my way back to the metal chair and sat down. "There is a bit of detour though," he broke our eye contact. "Lucas is missing." he finished. My hands began to shake as I realized that's why he took me, that's why he packed everything and left with me. He got the divorce papers, he wanted to flee. "Do you know anywhere he might be? We might have trouble if he's not present in court." I shook my head in response. "I fully understand. You're free to leave now." he placed his hand on my back reassuringly. "I'll drop the court information off at your new address right when I receive it." "Thank you." I mumbled to him, giving him one last hug and walked out. When I walked out I seen Hurdle sitting on the waiting bench with his fingers tangled in his hair. When the door shut behind me, his gaze shot up and landed on me. He immediately stood up and I don't know what came over me but I ran to him. Before I knew it, I took both of us by surprise by jumping into his arms. My legs wrapped around his waist and my arms tightly around his neck as I cried into the crook of his neck. He squeezed me back and swayed us back and forth. "Are you okay?" he worryingly asked me. "I couldn't be any better." I held onto him tighter as he rubbed at the small of my back.
