Chapter Sixteen
Becca’s POV
“Damn it Max! Why do you have to come and ruin everything?!” I yell at him after Cass runs off somewhere.
He chuckles slightly as he looks at me smugly.
“Ruin? I’m here to get our family back together babe... I’m here to get things straight.” He says emphasizing on the word ‘straight’.
“You know some things can’t be straightened back Max.” I reply coldly as I rummage through my bag trying to find my phone to call Cass.
“Oh, don’t say ‘Can’t’ darling. You know things were straight on our wedding night.” He says suggestively wiggling his eyebrows.
“You’re making me want to puke…” I say as I put on a gross look on my face.
He shrugs and smirks.
Glaring, I spit out with venom to him.
“Ever wonder why it was only on our wedding night? Why it never happen after?”
Seeing his fale pale, I smirk smugly at him.
“That’s right. You know exactly why.” I smile victoriously as I manage to find both my car keys and my phone.
I dash out of my office leaving a red-faced angry Max towards the parking lot and into my car to look for Cass.
After cruising around for a while, stopped at my house and at her apartment, calling her for what seems to be the hundredth time, I sigh and drive back to my house since Cassie is supposed to be back home now.
Arriving at a dark empty house, knowing that it would be back to me and Cassie again is hurting me badly as I sit onto the couch without turning any of the lights on.
Then I heard the front door being unlocked and Cassie runs in.
“Mummyy…!” She jumps over onto my lap causing me to chuckle slightly.
She frowns and tilts her head a little.
“Mummy, why are you crying?” She puts her hands on both sides of my cheeks.
I shake my head and smile at her.
“Nothing honey, mummy just have some dust in my eyes.”
She looks unconvinced as she gets off my lap and walk to turn the lights on.
“Where’s mum?” She crosses her arms across her chest demanding for answer.
“She has something to do at her apartment baby, hopefully she’ll be back tomorrow?” I say smiling fakely.
She frowns and shakes her head.
“Fine… If that’s what you want me to believe…” She walks towards her room leaving me stunned.
~~~~~
Sighing softly, I roll around the bed trying to fill the emptiness in my heart.
Stopping at my side of the bed, I roll over and stare at her side, smoothing the sheets.
Closing my eyes, I try to picture her, laying there naked tangled in the white sheets.
Her green eyes gleaming emerald as she stares at me with love and happiness.
A content sigh escape my lips as I whisper the words I want her to hear so badly right now.
“I love you…”
I open my eyes to find the other side of the bed still empty.
And I feel my heart being emptied as well.
And the tears I’ve been desperately holding is now spilling all over the sheets.
In cue with my tears, rain starts falling wetting the earth.
As my tears fall wetting the bed-sheets.
Sitting up on the bed, I look at my phone, hoping to see any message from her.
It’s been 3 days and we haven’t seen each other at all.
I’m dying out of loneliness, I can’t even take care of Cassie that she’s now with Max.
And I’m starting to think that I should just let Max take Cassie with him while I go away and disappear somewhere if Cass doesn’t want me anymore.
Then I shake my head in attempt to clear it.
I’m resolving myself.
I’ll go and talk to Cass, I’ll sit in front of her apartment until she would talk to me, even if I have to wait over night and day.
Until she says she doesn’t want me anymore.
Cass’ POV
“So this is what you do behind the scene huh…” The person whispers and disappears into the darkness of the night before either of us manages to see who it was.
“Wait! Damn it!” I try to chase the person blindly hearing Alice yelling at me to come back.
I didn’t think, I just run over towards the direction from where the voice was.
I hit something, or actually someone falling to the ground with a soft ‘thud’ eliciting a soft gasp from the person.
“Cassandra?” The soft voice whispers slowly.
I look up and see Becca towering over me.
I frown at her, staring.
“Why are you here?” I ask, my thoughts were scrambled as I think about Becca seeing me kiss Alice just now.
But she’s not showing any signs of ever seeing me kiss Alice. I frown again.
“You know, It’s been 3 days…” She sighs.
“So?” I say as I stand up and straighten my clothes.
“I miss you…” She frowns at me.
“Well, you could live 3 days without me, why not live forever without me.” I scowl at her.
“I-…”
“Damn it… Cass… You’re… Too fast…” Alice comes panting after running after me cutting Becca in the middle of her sentence.
Becca frowns at me as she takes a step back.
“Why is she here?” She whispers, hurt latched in her voice.
“Was it her?” Alice asks softly at me.
I shrug and stare at Becca’s face.
“Was what me?” She asks looking at me with blank eyes.
I frown and shake my head.
“You should go.” I say as I turn around and walk back towards my apartment.
“Oh, I’m your girlfriend and I’m the one who should go instead of her?” Becca laughs sarcastically.
“Well what do you expect? After breaking me twice?” I turn around after I say the words and look straight into her eyes.
It killed me.
The look in her eyes when I said the words.
“Wow.” She says as she lets out a shaky breath.
I couldn’t say anything as I only stare at her.
“You said that we’d make it work.” She whispers.
“That it has to work…“ the first line of tears streaks down her face.
“I guess that is what’s in your mind all this time… After all, I was right…” She staggers back as she wraps her arms around herself and averts her eyes from mine.
“A-…” I try to choke out some words but failed.
“I guess, this time… I’ll be the one gone…” She whispers walking backwards slowly, her head still bowed down towards the ground.
“I’m sorry… You’ll never see me again…” She says stopping.
She lifts her face and looks at me straight in the eyes, knocking the wind out of my lungs.
With a tear-stained face, she smiles. The best smile she could give me, while letting the tears roll freely down her cheeks.
“I love you…” She says.
Then, she too disappears, leaving me standing there breathless, staring into the darkness of the night where she disappears into.
