There was a moment of awkward silence.
"Uh, hey Chief"
"Hey Chief"
"Grandma Toph!" Me and Opal said as we ran up to hug her.
"You were only up to my waist the last time I saw you," She said to Opal. "And you not much taller. I see you finally met your mother." She said as she turned to me.
"Oh man! Ohohoho! This can't be happening!" Bolin seemed so over excited.
"What do you to pee?" Toph asked him. Me and Opal both laughed.
"No! Well now maybe. You're my hero. My name is Bolin. I'm dating your grand daughter. I mean kind of, I kinda screwed up, but that's why I'm here, and you are my hero! Oh, I said that. Can I have a hug to?" Bolin was very amusing.
"What's up with him? Toph asked
"He is an actor" My mom explained. "So, you already checked the city for Su? How did you know she was captured?"
"I've been living in the swamps and keeping a watch on Zaofu through the vines" Toph explained.
"Sure, okay, makes sense" Bolin looked confused.
"By the time I got here they were gone. I snooped around town and heard they were taking away to some nearby prison camp." Toph told us.
"Where would that be?" Opal asked, looking over at Bolin.
"There is a factory and re-education center not to far away" Bolin seemed upset with the fact that he knew that.
"How do you know that?"
"Bolin used to work for Kuvira" Opal told her.
"How did you end up dating the kind of dipstick that works for Kuvira?"
"Used to!" Bolin insisted.
"It's not her silver tongue, I can tell you that" My mom seemed a little on edge with her mom there.
"Please tell me this attitude isn't hereditary..."
"Sorry Bolin, it is" I gave him a small smile.
"Aww, come one." He sighed.
"You get used to it. Don't worry" I reassure him. We all climbed up on top of Juicy and took off.
"So how long has it been since you two have seen each other?" Bolin asked.
"A little while. A couple couple years" Toph told him.
"Try twenty" My mom added.
"Time flies when you get to be my age. I'm surprised you came to save Su. I thought you guys didn't get along" Toph said responded.
"Su and I finally worked out our old grievances" She told her. Not once did my mother look at hers.
"Good. Glad we can put all that behind us." Toph leaned back making herself comfortable.
"Right. We." She actually glanced over, but it didn't sound like she had forgiven her mother. Only Su. We landed on a ridge close to the factory that Bolin had told us about. We dismounted and made our way towards it. Once inside we found this huge weapon.
"I think I know where they are" Toph told us. "Feel that cavern below us? It feels empty but it's guarded by an awful lot of mech." My mom used her seismic sense to check.
"Right. Why would you need soldiers to guard an empty cavern? They must have them in some kind of suspended prison so they can't use their earthbending" The huge doors slowly started to open.
"Someone is coming! Hide!" Boling called to us. He had been keeping watch. Kuvira had come in to check on the weapon. Kuvira, Baatar Jr. and Zhu li were talking about the weapon.
"She is lying" Toph told us, which seemed to make Bolin happy. We snuck away after that and went back to our landing spot.
"We should be finding a way to take out Kuvira while we are here" Opal said to us.
"Or at least take out the cannon. If she takes that to Republic city, it could obliterate everything." Bolin added.
"I didn't come to fight with Kuvira or destroy a cannon. I'm here to save my family. It will take everything we have just to get out alive." Toph told them
"Kuvira wants every single one of her people to see the weapons test tomorrow so the factory will be mostly empty. That will be our best chance so sneak in and free Su without being spotted."
"Good thinking Bolin"
"Thanks. I kinda have a headache now."
We set up camp for the night. Nothing to special, we didn't want Kuvira to know we were just beyond her borders. We all sat around a makeshift earth table while we ate. Bolin chatted with Toph about Metal bending.
"Here is something I've been wondering. Who is Lin's dad?" The look Lin gave Bolin terrified him.
"He was a guy named Kanto. Nice guy but it didn't really work out between us." Toph told him.
"Annnnnnnd, okay" It was awkward again.
"Lin, I can feel your enraged breathing from here. Just say what you have to say and let's get it over with." This was going to be interesting.
"Just get it over with? Yeah, lets not linger on the fact that I grew up without a dad. No need to get all touchy feely about it. Just one of those things right?" Lin shot at her.
"Hey, I forgave you for all your garbage a long time ago when Su and I worked things out. You're the only one who wants to hold onto this family drama nonsense for the rest of your life." Toph countered.
"Forgave me for what? And not knowing my dad is nonsense to you? It was pretty important to me and until now you would never even discuss it. You know after Su and I patched things up, I thought maybe I should try and reach out to mom, but now that we are together again I remember why we stopped talking. You make me furious and you don't even know why, and when I tell you, you don't care. Once we save Su, you and I are finished." Toph gave a deep sigh.
"If that's your decision and it makes you happy, then fine" Toph didn't even bother arguing. Me and Opal looked at each other, a little concerned about what we had just witnessed. Bolin just went on eating.
