I got into my car and drove away from the apartments. As far away as possible. Where I was gonna go? I have no idea. I owned the apartment so technically I could go back and kick Lindsey out. But, that would be rather embarrassing so I just continued driving. Dammit, I should've had Mavrick go with me. Chances are Lindsey's gonna take her anger out on sweet little Mavrick.
That's when I passed Gavin's place. Or should I say his apartment. He finally got enough money to buy his own apartment and move out of Geoff's. I decided I could at least stop in. Okay, it'd be kinda weird to be stopping in at around ten at night, but whatever. Gavin used to do that all the time to me before I started dating Lindsey.
I parked my car and walked up to his apartment. I decided what I was gonna say to him before I got up there. I would tell him the truth, because one way or another, he would figure it out. I'd ask him to stay for a few days until Lindsey moved out. Hopefully, he'd be okay with it.
I knocked on the door and stood back. I waited a few moments before the door opened and a sleepy Gavin stood there rubbing his eyes. I felt my heartbeat quicken when I realized he wasn't wearing a shirt and only pajama bottoms. Wait... What the fuck? I've seen Gavin shirtless tons of times. Why does this happen now?
"Mi-cool? What are you doing here?" Gavin asked me. He opened the door wider, inviting me in. I walked in and noticed he had a Call of Duty game on pause.
"Um, Gavin... This is gonna sound weird but...," I started. Gavin noticed something was wrong and he put a hand on my shoulder.
That's when I felt all my emotions wash over me. I just broke up with the girl I've been dating for longer than I can remember. I felt my throat tighten and my eyes begin to become blurry. I haven't cried in years so it was definitely weird to feel like this again.
Gavin gasped and pulled me into a tight hug. I began sobbing into his chest while he rubbed my back and muttered things into my ear. I felt my heart breaking but being in Gavin's embrace somehow helped that. Like he was mending my broken heart just by standing there with his arms around me.
I finally pulled back after a minute and tried to stop crying. Gavin led me over to his couch and sat me down on it.
"Mi-cool. Can you please tell me what going on? I've never seen you this upset before," Gavin asked me. I nodded and sniffled a bit.
"Well, Lindsey and I broke up. She got a job in California and she wants to take it. But I want to stay here so... Yeah," I told him. Gavin nodded and wiped away a few of my tears with his thumb. I felt my heartbeat quicken again.
"That's terrible, Mi-cool. You can stay here for as long as you want if you need someplace to stay," Gavin offered. Does he read minds or something? Maybe he isn't as much of an idiot as everyone thinks he is.
"Thank, Gav. But I think I'm only staying until Lindsey moves out. Plus I'll probably still be at the apartment, you know, with Mavrick and all. Besides, I don't want to cause trouble," I told him. Gavin scoffed and stood up.
"You won't be trouble at all! It gets quite lonely here actually. And you should bring Mavrick over here! It would be so fun," Gavin said. I laugh at him. No matter what he manages to make a shitty situation funny.
"I don't know, Gavin. He's a big dog," I told him. Gavin scoffed again and grabbed my hand.
"We're getting Mavrick and bringing him over. He should join this party. He's of age, right?" Gavin asked. I laughed as he put on a shirt and led me out of his apartment.

We managed to get Mavrick without Lindsey knowing. How? Cause we're ninjas. We got into Gavin's car with Mavrick in the back panting. Gavin and I burst into laughter at our hilarious escape.
"Team Nice Dynamite!" Gavin chanted. He raised his hand for me to high five it. I caught my breath and slapped our hands together.
"Team Nice Dynamite," I told him back. We lowered our hands only to have them fall on top of each other on the middle console. I pulled my hand away immediately but I couldn't help but notice Gavin's cheeks turn a light red.
What was that about? Maybe he was just embarrassed. Whatever.
We drove back to Gavin's apartment and he led Mavrick and I in.
"Alright, I'm going to bed. You can crash on the couch with Mavrick. I'll grab you some things. Hang on," Gavin muttered. He walked into his room and returned with a blanket and pillow. He threw them on the couch while I walked over.
"There. So, yeah. Good night, Mi-cool," Gavin said. I could tell he was pretty tired.
"Good night, Gav. And thanks again... For everything," I told him. Gavin nodded and walked into his room, shutting the door.
I sighed and laid down on the couch. Gavin actually had a comfortable couch. I looked at my phone and realized that I really should change the wallpaper. I looked through my many photos and found a picture of Gavin and I at RTX. I smiled, remembering taking the picture and setting it as my background. Much better...
Mavrick jumped on the couch and curled up by my feet. I yawned and turned on my side and closed my eyes, wanting this day to be over, more and more.

"Mi-cool. Wake up," I awoke to Gavin shaking me. I opened my eyes and saw him standing over me with wet hair.
"Do you want to run over to your apartment and grab some clothes? I figured you probably would," Gavin asked me. I nodded and sat up. Mavrick bounced up at my sudden movement. Always so protective of me.
I folded the blanket quickly and handed it to Gavin. He took the pillow and blanket into his room and returned, grabbing his keys and leading me out of the apartment, Mavrick following closely behind.
When we arrived at my apartment, I saw Lindsey walking out to her car. She glared and me and flipped Gavin and I off. Gavin and I simply laughed and shrugged. We walked upstairs to my apartment, Mavrick still following. He's probably starving, I usually feed him earlier than this.
I led Gavin into my apartment. What I saw nearly broke up heart. My xbox... Shattered to bits. God dammit...
"No! Not Oscar!" I yelled as I fell to my knees, making this so dramatic it was funny. Gavin pulled out his phone and started recording as I scooped the shattered bits into my hands and said no.
"I'm so sorry, Mi-cool. You'll have to get another Oscar," Gavin said, holding in a laugh. I looked up and started laughing as I got up. Gavin put his phone away and watched me as I picked up the broken pieces and threw them away.
"God dammit... She probably wiped out my memory units too," I said as I looked at them. I wouldn't be surprised if she did. All that work...
Gavin came up behind me and patted my shoulder. I sighed and got Mavrick his food.
"I'm gonna take a shower. You can do whatever," I told him. Gavin nodded and sat on the couch and pulled out his phone.
I walked into my bedroom and grabbed some clothes. At least Lindsey didn't touch them. I grabbed some jeans and a t-shirt and went into the bathroom.
As I was taking my shower, I realized how sucky today was gonna be. Seeing Lindsey around the building while I'm trying to work. Everyone's gonna make a big deal when she leaves, just like they did with Ray. They're probably gonna mention that Lindsey and I aren't together anymore in a Podcast or something like that. Or they'll expect me to say something. Well... That would suck.
Yep... Today was gonna suck.
