"Oof!" I yelp. Something had slammed into my back. And was now wrapping it's arms around my hips. Robert. I laugh at myself. That was not what I was expecting.
I smile and continue to glare at Brittany. We were having a staring contest and Robert was apparently trying to distract me, as he was now trying to tickle my stomach. I would not lose.
I lean my elbows on the table, staring intently into Brittany's eyes. She bit her lip, probably trying to hide a smile. "Agh my contacts are fogging over!" Brittany cries. She squeezes her eyes shut and opens them a second later, blinking like a retard.
I stand up and throw my hands in the air, yelling, "I win!" Robert laughs and moves around me, releasing my hips to instead stand in front of me. He wiggles his eyebrows playfully and kisses me.
"Congratulations." He winks and walks back into the kitchen to make food. Ooooh, food.
Brittany stands up and walks over to me, placing her arms around me tightly. "Good job. But I have to run now. So I'll see you later. Oh, and make sure you tell him soon," She licks my cheek while pulling away and then snickers as she runs for her life out the door.
Robert stands defeated in the doorway. "But...but I thought I was the only one who could lick your beautiful face..." He looks so helpless, and like he wants to drop the spatula.
"Sorry, it wasn't my choice, trust me," I groan as I try to wipe all her saliva off my cheek.
"I'll never forgive her, ever. I shall only stare blankly at her as I make it awkward. Forever."
I roll my eyes. He was such a child in a mans body. I stride over to the window and look out it, my eyes scanning across the lawn and resting on the train tracks. I'd always wanted to live by train tracks. The sun was setting. It was gorgeous.
"Robert?" I call.
"Hmm?" He questions back.
"You wanna go for a walk?" My lips curl up just from the thought.
"Uh, sure. Just one second..." He says, his voice fading. After a minute he walks in to the living room where I'm still standing, looking at the train tracks. I turn to him, giggling when I see his face.
His eyebrows furrow in confusion and I smile even wider. I take a small step towards him, so my stomach is pressed against his, and I can feel his breath on my cheek. My eyes flicker from his lips to mine and he starts breathing heavier. I lean in slowly until I'm close enough to kiss him. Then I lick off the drop of sauce on his chin and step back quickly, walking over to the couch to grab my coat.
He hasn't moved, and I don't think he will. I chuckle. "Problem, Hun?"
"N-no.." He stutters and forces his feet to move and turn to face me. But then...he gets the look in his eye. You know the one. My eyes go wide and I drop my coat onto the floor.
"Robert...calm down don't..." But it's too late. He's already charging me. I barely have time to brace for impact before his body hits into mine and we go spiraling backwards onto the couch. He just tackled me.
His body is crushing mine and he's giggling on me, while I'm stuck under him having trouble breathing. "Rob-" I try to say but I'm cut off by his finger on my lips.
"Dunker, you didn't think I'd let you get away with that did you?" He has a mischievous tone to his voice. It was freaken sexy.
"I'm not a Dunker anymore," I wheeze out.
This makes him smile wider. "Right, you're my beautiful wife who I love. How could I forget?"
I stare into his gorgeous eyes for a moment, ensuring that I can't breathe. Then he flashes his teeth at me for a moment before they meet my lips. This is what he always did when I teased him. He pinned himself against me and kissed me. Served me right, I knew what would happen every time. Not that it was a bad thing....
After what seemed like forever but yet not long enough, he pulls away and hops up, offering a hand out to me. "So what about that walk?"
I take his hand, still trying to slow my breathing. As he hold my hand and picks up my jacket, he rubs his thumb rubs my wedding ring. He always did that...I think it comforted him. Reminded him that I was his forever. I smile at the thought.
He pecks my cheek and drags me out the front door, locking it firmly behind him. "Come on, Love." He winks at me and swings our hands back and forth as we walk. It was October so it was chilly. I snuggle closer into my jacket and walk a little bit closer to Robert. He leads me down the sidewalk, our feet crunching on the orange leaves.
As we walk, I point out neatly carved pumpkins on porches, Halloween decorations, even some beautiful trees with red leaves. It was so gorgeous during the fall.
"Oh. My. Nugget," I gasp.
Robert looks confused before he stares out to what I'm ogling at. His eyes go wide to and his grip on my hand tightens. "You know we have to...right?"
"Course we do, Love," I smile up at him.
I give him a stout nod and release his hand, which makes mine feel cold even with my gloves on. He nods back and stares forward again.
Without any notice, I start sprinting into the empty field, towards my goal. Robert isn't far behind me, he would probably pass me if I weren't almost to my destination anyways.
When I'm about two feet away, I jump into the air, and onto the pile of crisp leaves. I didn't realize how deep the pile actually was, because as I make impact, I can't see the sky above me anymore. The leaves were completely covering me.
I hear laughter to the side of me, a laugh I know anywhere. Robert. I can't see him though. But then a thought comes to me...If I couldn't see him, maybe I could feel him. I stick my hand out to the right of me and feel around for him. Finally I make contact with something warm. I laugh as I hear him call, "Ow my neck!"
After a minute, his neck isn't there anymore. He must've stood up. I wait patiently for him to help me, we both knew that I wasn't even tall enough to stand upright in this pile. It had to be a little over 6 feet tall.
There's rustling from above me, and then a hand grips my hip. I yelp in surprise but then laugh and take his wrist from my hip. He latches onto my hand and pulls me out of the pile like you would water. I stumble out and would've tripped if he hadn't steadied me. I giggle and he grins down to me.
"That was awesome," I say, he nods in agreement.
"Very."
I sigh as I see the sun going down behind a hill. We have to walk back now. I'm disappointed until I think of hot chocolate and a movie. I lead Robert this time, our fingers interlaced.
After a couple minutes of our laughter and talking, we've reached our house. It was an a-frame and white, with a lot of windows and decorated with orange pumpkins and red and yellow trees. When we go inside, Robert heads to the kitchen to make us both hot chocolate while I stare out at the train passing. I watch the colors smear together until they pass, leaving cool silent air in its wake.
I bite my lip. How should I tell him? When should I tell him? I think tonight would be a good night, right? Okay. Yes. I'll do it tonight. "Hun?" I call.
"Yeah?" He says and comes out with two mugs of hot chocolate. He hands me one which I thank him for and sit him down. He places the mugs on the coffee table and looks at me curiously.
"I have something I want to tell you," I say excitedly, biting my lip. He looks nervous and uncertain. I place one of my hands on his shoulder and use the other to take his wrist. I lead it to my stomach and let him hold it there.
"I think I'm going to have to start calling you Dad."
His lips part and he stops breathing, his eyes flickering from my eyes to my stomach where his hand rests. I let out a couple squeals of joy when he moves over and hugs me, practically suffocating me. When he pulls away, he looks overjoyed. I could tell from the tears glistening in his eyes.
"Are you serious?" He asks, voice wavering. I nod and smile like an idiot. He joins me and hugs me again, kissing my cheek repeatedly.
"I love you," he whispers into my ear. I laugh and say it back.
"I love you too.
