"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
The pledge of allegiance is a pledge that was originally created to be used by any citizen of any county. The first draft went as followed, "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
The pledge currently states that you are to be loyal to the United States, you must remain as a unified nation, and you must serve justice to all citizens of the United States. This means that regardless of how the government/military forces respond to a situation, you must not become split between two or more sides, and you must serve justice to everyone, regardless of whether or not they deserve it. The part where it says that we are a nation under God is in no way relevant to anything regarding staying loyal to our country. One of the main reasons people have fled to the United States is that we claim to offer religious freedom. We are contradicting ourselves when we force citizens to say a pledge that states that they are a nation under God. This is where our problem of staying unified may come into place, if a country is torn apart between religion, we are going against two of the things aforementioned in the pledge we have been forced to reciete since grade school.
In conclusion, "under God", is a very unnecessary addition to the pledge, which should be optional to be said at all. It is unneeded and goes against everything we stand for with our motto of "religious freedom".
