Two years ago...
Ava ran along the corridors at her swiftest pace, stopping only to catch her breath. She knew she was late for her Chemistry class.
The Chemistry professor, Mr. Boggs couldn't tolerate indiscipline in his students. He was very strict with his moral values.
She was made to stand facing the class, though it wasn't as unpleasant as she anticipated it would be. She reluctantly moved towards the corner with a feeling of sheer embarrassment.
After all, it was her first day of college but she didn't want a thing as minor as that to spoil her day, so she let that be.
She noticed a boy seated, not so far from where she stood. He had brown, unkempt hair. His eyes were dark, a secretive kind of dark. An unidentifiable expression lurked in his features as he turned to look at her. She looked away instantly...
"Ugh! Another 15 minutes of this lecture." She muttered sulkily.
After they were dismissed from class, Ava walked hurriedly to Mr Boggs wanting to apologise for her being late before he left the classroom too. It was all in a hurry as she had to meet up with her friend before the next class started, that was when her eyes fell upon the same boy she'd noticed earlier. He was looking straight at her. His steady gaze made her feel uneasy. Her cheeks turned pink and she turned to leave the classroom, clumsily bumping into every table that came her way.
She rushed past corridors to the library and met with her friend Jessica. They had known each other since childhood. They were the perfect hard-core best friends. Jessica was a year older than Ava so they didn't have their classes together.
Ava explained how her first day hadn't really been a memorable one.
"By the way, Jess, do you know that tall guy in our class who's got dark eyes?" She asked out of curiosity. Jessica looked startled. "That's Jonathan, why?"
"It was just a casual question. Thanks for the information though." said Ava. Something about Jessica's reaction to the mention of Jonathan made her uncomfortable..
She tried to change the topic to the subjects that she'd taken up, but in vain. Jessica wasn't listening. She seemed anxious and a deep frown creased her face.*****
Ava had a lot on her mind, on the way back home. The day had definitely been a hectic one. She was still pondering over Jessica's strange reaction.
Jonathan kept hitting her thoughts every now and then. She just tried to ignore those but that didn't help.
She lived with her parents in the Suburbs. Her mother and father owned a bakery shop, they didn't make much money for the family to live in the city but they lived a happy and peaceful life.
She was almost there when she had a feeling that there was someone behind her. She turned around in one swift movement and to her astonishment spotted Jonathan.
Is he following me? She wondered aloud. The sight of him near her house, made her squirm with uneasiness. She paced the street without turning back and moved swiftly towards her front door. She shot him a swift glance before entering her house. He had the same secretive look, giving away nothing.
The wind teased the locks of his hair and his lips curled slightly in a smile. It could barely be made out...Little was she aware of... She had no idea what these subtle sparks of feelings would lead to.
