Drama #10: HIGH SCHOOL STRUGGLES - Swimming + School = Wrong!
*Takes Microphone*
Hey, hey, hey chickens! Time for a new drama! This time it is a HIGH SCHOOL STRUGGLE!
*Crowd cheers*
*Bows*
Yes, yes! I know you are all excited about this, well, at least I hope you are!
Today, you will have to endure me complaining about what happened at school today.
Let me give you the background info:
So, this term, all of Year 7 at my school have to complete a swimming program. The grade is spilt in half, so one half will go swimming for the first half of the term, while the other stays behind and does House Sport, which is basically nothing. The second half will then swim during the second half of the term, whilst the first half then go House Sport.
Does that make sense?
It probably doesn't...
Anyways, as you probably guessed, I (along with me bros) am in the first half and therefore we swam today.
The pros: It was 36° C heat today so at least we got to cool down in the water.
The cons: Ahh... well.... let me tell you.....
🏊🏊🏊
Story/ Con #1:
The absolute worst part of the whole experience was the fact that all the girls had to change into their swimmers in one changing room. Like, we couldn't even use the toilets because we had to "Hurry up," so everyone had to struggle to get out of their sport uniform and into their one-piece or bikini (with a rashie - you couldn't wear a bikini without a rash shirt over it) without anyone seeing your junk.
And trust me, that was hard.
But it was worse when we had finished swimming and had to take off our swimmers and re-dress ourselves.
(Is 're-dress' a word? It is now.)
That was even harder than the first time, because we were all wet and full of chlorine and blaarrgghh!
🏊🏊🏊
Story/ Con #2:
The second thing that sucked about going swimming was the wet and chlorine-filled hair I had afterwards.
We couldn't dry our hair properly because "We had to go," so I went back to school with my hair tied up in a bun (that's the hairstyle I swam in) BUT with millions of little, annoying independent hairs sticking up and giving me the appearance of a male lion ('cause I had a mane)...
Other girls brushed their hair on the bus back to school, but I wasn't bothered for that crap. Besides, if I took my hair out, my gut told me it would be a terrible decision.
So, I told my friends, "I can't see it, so it doesn't bother me!"
But that didn't mean as soon as I got home I didn't jump into a shower....
The GIF I placed in the media is to show what, realistically, all us girls did NOT look like.
🏊🏊🏊
Story/ Con #3:
Now, this didn't happen to me today, but I noticed a lot of girls who were supposed to swim with us didn't.
Normally, I wouldn't think twice about it, today I didn't.
That's because I know why most of them weren't coming swimming.
You see, last term, the female teachers told us that if we get our periods and can't swim for that reason, we have to bring in a note and we will then have to go to House Sport with the other half of Year 7.
I'm guessing that these girls had their periods so that's why they didn't come.
Now, I'm not judging anyone here, in fact, I'm doing the opposite.
I couldn't help but feel bad for these girls who had to miss out and attend House Sport (mind you, there isn't any shade at the parks they bring us to for House Sport) on a 36°C day when they could of been cooling off in the refreshing water.
That's like anytime you get your period in the summer when their is a chance to go in the water, you can't go!
I remember when my family went to Hawaii (back in Drama #1 - God that feels so long ago!), my mum couldn't come in the beautiful water because she had her period.
And Hawaii is the only place where my mum is not a chicken and loves the water! So that really sucked.
Wait, let me rephrase that.
Periods really suck.
Actually, I can go further than that!
Periods just suck in general, especially in Summer!
🏊🏊🏊
Ahh well, I will have all this to look forward to again next week! And the week after that, and the week after that, and the week after that.....I may just be a preteen, and I may not know much about life, but I do know one thing:
Swimming + School = Wrong!
(And trust me, math is my worse subject!)
