School was an absolute bore. Nothing ever happens there I swear.
I unlocked the front door and was surprised to see my mother stood in the kitchen, talking on the phone.
I ran upstairs and waited for her to finish, and when she did, I walked back down to greet her.
"Hey mum!" I said, grabbing a banana. "Hi darling." She smiled.
"How come you're home? You don't normally come home for hours."
"Well, you said about your friend coming over tonight, right?" I nodded. "I thought id come home early and cook dinner for all of us!" She said proudly.
"Sounds lovely mum! When he gets here I'll be sure to tell him! Love you!" I shouted and ran upstairs again.I made sure that I had a clean room, before changing out of my old clothes into some nicer clean clothes from my wardrobe.
The doorbell rang and I ran for it, shouting for my mum to leave it.
"Hey! Come in!" I panted, exhausted from running down the stairs.
Harry stared nervously and gulped as he stepped inside.
We ran upstairs for the second time and got straight to work.
"Harry?" I asked, putting down the pen I was writing with. "Y-yeah?" He stuttered. "Mum said you can stay for dinner tonight. Is that alright with you?" I said, earning a cough and nod. "T-thank you, Ava." He smiled lightly.
Hearing him say my name in his innocent - almost scared - tone made my heart skip a beat. I could feel my cheeks heat up as I thought more and more about him saying my name.
"AVA!! Come down now! Dinners ready!" Mum screamed from the kitchen, making poor Harry jump out of his skin.
I laughed and opened my door, motioning for him to come with me, and walked downstairs.
We stood in the doorway of the dining room and my jaw dropped.
There, in front of us, was a buffet of all sorts of finger foods, such as; popcorn chicken, pizza, mini quiches, samosas, spring rolls, chips (or fries if you're American), potato waffles, and turkey airplanes!
"Hello dear, it's so lovely to meet you!" My mother greeted Harry, holding out her hand for him to shake. "It's nice to meet you too, Ms Brooks. I'm Harry." He smiled. There was still a hint of nervousness in his voice, but surprisingly, he didn't stutter.
"Harry dear, please call me Ella. It makes me sound so old when I'm called that." Mother corrected him. Harry just smiled and nodded in reply, adding a "Sorry" before we all tucked in to our food.
Through the entire night, I noticed Harry had become much more relaxed around me and mother, which is a side I've never seen before on him, and to be honest, I like this side of him a lot.
By the time Harry had to go, we had been laughing loudly at a terrible joke my mother attempted. His laugh is contagious, with its little giggle, as well as his random outbursts of laughter.
If only he was like this all the time.
"Thank you so much for tonight, Ava. I really enjoyed myself!" He thanked.
"You're welcome Harry. We should do this another time yeah?" I suggested. He nodded his head. "Yes."
"Goodnight Harry." I said as he walked out of the door. "Goodnight Ava." He said and left.
