Part 31..Hospital Visit

Doug and Sasha make their way to the ICU room where Alex is being held. They walk in seeing him in a coma hooked up to the life support machines all making beeping and bleeping noises.  Doug sits down in the chair in front of his bed his eyes stare coldly the sight an all too familiar one for him reminded of his father's last days in the ICU. Sasha stands next to him rubbing his shoulder. She looks down at him "are you alright?" Doug simply says "coffee, I need coffee." Sasha makes a face of concern, "I'll see if I can find some for you." She walks out Doug watches her figure as she leaves the room he wonders how his luck changed so drastically. He removes the black hat bowing his head in prayer. "Lord first and foremost I ask you to please mend his body and make him whole again. I also want to thank you for everything you've done letting me get him out of there today and that Sasha wasn't hurt at all. Lord I haven't said so before but thank you for putting her in my life too. Im a much happier man with her at my side. I'm not a perfect man Lord please forgive my transgressions. Lastly, I just want to thank you for another day. Through Jesus I pray, Amen." He looks up putting his hat back on Sasha is standing there holding his coffee with a half smile. He takes the coffee starting to drink it she sits on his lap. He puts his arm around her waist holding her close to him. He finishes off the coffee cup quickly despite being steaming hot and rests his chin on her shoulder looking over his best friend laid up in the hospital bed. Sasha takes Doug's black hat putting it on her own head. They sit there in silence Doug finally has both his arms around her she holds his hands in her lap. They sit like this for an hour almost before Sasha turns to him. "You want anything?" "Another Coffee" he replies and he lets her go. She sticks his hat back on his head. She walks out and he pulls the hat low falling asleep for several minutes. He hears her footsteps and he wakes back up breathing deeply. She hands him the coffee then says "you need to sleep." Doug looks in her eyes "yeah and he'd be telling you the same thing." He downs this coffee and she sits with him again they hold each others hands. "You know I cant stand these places." He says she nods and she plays with his fingers still he plays back a little bit. He slouches in the chair and she takes his hat off setting it aside so she can run her fingers in his hair. She does this for 30 minutes and it actually puts him to sleep overriding the effects of the coffee he drank amazingly. He wakes back up Sasha puts her fingers on his chin and turns his head to her. "I think we need to get you home a put you to bed." He half smiles saying "I suppose you're right. I don't guess anything is gonna change soon." They get up they walk over to Alex's bed Doug grips his right hand "we'll see you tomorrow sometime bubba." Sasha bends down and kisses Alex's right cheek and then they walk out of there. Doug stumbles a bit walking he's so tired. Sahsa looks at him "are you ok?" Doug pulls the keys from his pocket and hands them to Sasha who hesitates a bit. "You want me to drive your truck home?" "Sasha darling I can't I'll wreck that thing I'm so tired. Take it as a badge of honor I let you drive my truck." In Doug's mind he thinks he would probably be alright but he wanted to give her the chance anyway. They walk out and she unlocks his truck. He gets in on the passenger side feeling a little funny being on that side and Sasha hops in the driver seat. She has to move the seat forward so she can reach the pedals she being much shorter than Doug. He puts his hat on the dashboard and leans against the window closing his eyes he listens to her fire up the blue Ford and carefully shift into reverse then drive. He falls asleep on the way home and when they finally get home she has to wake him up. She puts her hand on his shoulder gently shaking him. "Hey, we're here...come on we'll go straight to bed." He groggily gets out he looks at the clock seeing its 1:39 A M. They walk to the apartment Sasha keeping her arm in his pulling him along as he's walking slow. They get in Doug walks straight to the bed and flops on it only having pulled his shirt off. Sasha changes and then she pulls a white shirt from the closet. She puts it on Doug and pulls off his boots that he forgot to take off. About to fall asleep her self she crawls in getting as close and she can to Doug putting her arm around him and she's out fast asleep just like Doug. It's a quiet night and morning for them Sasha waking up around 9 the next morning and letting Doug sleep til noon. She shakes him awake and he's still groggy going into the kitchen and laying his head on the table going back to sleep. "Are you really that tired?" He mumbles something but she can't understand and she just goes with it knowing he won't remember what he said later. She pours him a cup of coffee bringing it to the table. "Mmm I've got your favorite drink." He sits up finally drinking the stuff. She comes over to him hugging from behind she pecks his cheeks with kisses several times. He turns his head and kisses her finally. She peers into his green eyes, "are you awake now?" "Yeah I suppose." She giggles saying "oh now you finally talk to me."
