Part 1
You want to time travel?
“Chris, come down stairs and get off your computer! Your cousin is here and he wants to see you.” My mother yelled form the lounge.
“Why can’t you just let him come up here?” I sighed.
“No get out of your room and come down now.” She commanded.
I sigh but go down anyways.
As I go down I see that my cousin is sitting on the couch with my dad.
“So Austin, how has school been? Still getting those great grades that everyone praises you for?” Said my dad.
“Obviously, I wouldn’t let myself slip behind in school just because I started high school. The classes are simple and I’m even doing an extra credit project in German class because I finished an assignment early. I’m doing on the second world war.” He explained. Why must he be so successful at that age? Does he even have access to the internet?
“Oh Chris, why don’t you come and talk to Austin, I bet you two have a lot to talk about since you haven’t seen each other in over 2 years.” Your dad says getting up from the couch. My cousin gives me that million bucks smile that I dread.
“Hello Chris it’s been too long! We should really hangout sometime, I can introduce you to some of my friends and have a party and-“
“I’m good,” I cut in not wanting to hear him talk anymore; his voice is just really annoying to my ears.
“Okay then I understand, what’s new in your life then Chris?” He asked; why can’t he just leave me alone?
“Well I’ve started making music in the past 4 months, I’ve got two songs almost finished and one that I started last night that is really bad so far but I think if I spend a few more hours on it, it could be great.” I said. It was seriously the only impressive thing that I’ve done other than create multiple blogs that I keep updated.
“Wow, could I hear one of your songs?” He asked. I nodded and led him up into my room.
“Why is it so dark up here? Why are your walls black that’s so depressing? Who are these bands?” Austin said looking around my room pointing to my walls and my multiple posters.
“I like the dark and they’re just bands I like to listen to.” I said.
“Oh well, they’re… Different.” He commented.
“Yeah whatever! Do you want to listen to my music or not?” I said getting annoyed with his judging of my room.
“Oh right, what type of music is it? Like an acoustic cover of songs or something? I never knew you could sing.” He said. Okay now I’m literally going to hit him.
“No, I make electronic music which doesn’t need singing or voices in it I just make it on my computer with an editing program and different sounds.” I explained. He didn’t look too enthusiastic.
“Oh, well I guess I’ll listen, is it like that skrillex dude?” He said. Okay calm down Chris, calm down.
“No, I’m just going to show you now.” I said as I opened my music. I started playing it but he didn’t look too interested. When it finished I waited for a comment but it never came.
“So, what so you think?” I asked after about 30 seconds of silence from the two of us.
“It’s okay, but I think it would sound better if-“ I cut him off right there.
“No, it’s fine I don’t need any of your advice I’m happy with the way it sounds.” I said trying to be as nice as I possibly could to this guy; seriously this is why I never see him.
“So what’s new with you?” I asked after a moment of silence.
“Well I’m planning on trying a new science project soon and I was wondering if you would like to help.” I sighed; does he honestly need my help?
“Why do you need my help?” I asked calmly.
“I just thought that it’d be fun, plus I need an assistant to help me and I thought you’d be perfect with your knowledge of computers and things like that.” Should I take this as a compliment? I guess I will.
“Alright then, what is this so called project you are going to make that you need my help for? Is it something for school or..?” I asked.
“I want to build a time machine, go into the future and look what’d it be like to live there and-“
“Hold up, you want to time travel? Like that Doctor Who guy?” I asked. Was this guy serious?
“Well kind of, but I think I’ve come up with a theory that could actually work but I need your help. I have the money and technology; I got it from a certain place that cannot-be-named.” He said a smile spread from eye to eye.
“Are you serious? No one has ever succeeded with this; even the most brilliant scientists haven’t cracked the code of time travel, what makes you think you can?” I asked now sitting beside my cousin on my bed.
“Yes I am 110% serious and I’m almost 99% certain I’ve figured this out.” He said he face as serious as anything I’ve ever seen.
“As crazy as this may seem I’ll help, you’re a smart kid. But when do we start this project?” I asked.
“At the old abandoned warehouse in Perth; at midnight tonight. We will work all night so bring coffee.” He said getting up. “I’ll explain more tonight when we are alone. Good day.” He said leaving.
